Hi everyone, thanks for all of the comments. Very helpful.

Any further thoughts on noted differences between various 3rd gens? Any significant benefit/difference if I go for a 2016 vs 2019 aside from the obvious mileage etc.

    Thank you! Much appreciated.

    Yes
2016 and 2017 have no tss which is adaptive cruise control as well as safety breaking a few different color variations but don’t think much is different same engine and tranny if you do a lot of highway drive the adaptive cruise control is a great feature

I have both the 2013 and the 2017. My son drives the 13 and I drive the 2017 OR. I purchased the 2107 because i wanted the sunroof, not available on 2nd gen, but I went with the 17 because it did not have some of the extra sensors and monitoring that the 2018+ has. It also does not have the large blind spot behind the rear view mirror from those same electronics mounted on the widow there. It may just be me, but it really bothered me. Purchased the 17 as CPO and got the extra 10 year Toyota premium, that starts after that for less than 1K, bumper to bumper.
The transmission is a little annoying at times, but just that, annoying. Love both vehicles, so easy to work on , cheap to repair, lots of toys and mods available, from cheap to big bucks, definitely a rabbit hole, but lots of fun. The 13 is in Montana playing in the mountains now!! tacomas.jpg

Can't say much about the different generations of tacoma's only that the 3 gen so far has been very good with only minor gremlins after owning a dearly departed 01 tundra which imo was a very good truck. The 2020 tacoma has an advantage as far as the electronics which really isn't a big deal to me. Its too bad toyota couldn't stuff that old tundra 4.7 in the engine compartment.

The TSS gets a lot of flak here but I like it a lot! Sure it has its quirks but if someone in front has their cruise control on it is great on long trips!

Can't agree more! I use it a good amount on the highway and I didn't think I would before I bought the truck. It works flawless for me and that's with a manual too. Of course this is with most my driving being pretty close to sea level so not sure if it would be different at higher elevation.

2 of my friends have late 2nd gens with around 100,000 miles and have had almost no problems. My 2019 happens to be a lemon, and has had /all/ of the problems with every system, most grievously that cursed diff howl. Unfortunately, it’s not been repeat issues so i couldn’t lemon it. Strangely, they removed all the zerks by 2019 short of the front driveshaft (which of course is leaking on mine....) so in that sense, the 2nd gen will have more reliable suspension components because you can grease them for life

Still, 3rd gen definitely looks better, i like the safety tech and offroad capabilities. I wish low range was lower for the manual transmission, rock crawling slowly makes the motor angry.

Use this website to do research before purchasing mods, not all are equal

I think that's certain trims or package. I don't have a power rear window with my Sport.

It started in 2017 on double cabs, no access cabs have it.

Bought my ‘14 sport w/ 48,000 miles on it, single owner, non smoker, stock dad truck. That was almost two years ago and I do nothing but routine maintenance and mods I want to do to the truck- runs amazingly.

I went with the late second gen specifically because of lack of ‘creature comforts’. Less things to break.

If you’re buying from a dealership, bring all the leverage you can with you. Good luck!

Hi again everyone. Any ideas on why a 2019 TRD OR access cab with just over 10k miles on it might be priced at $29k? Thats a good $3k-$5k less vs others with the same specs. I'm not sure if this is weird or maybe just that access cabs are less desirable by the general population? 100% clean carfax. Any thoughts? Thank you again. You guys are so helpful!
