I've seen a few threads about specific aftermarket options. Namely:

Tacoma Sport/Pro mirrors: Good for adding turn signals and/or heat if you don't have those features already.
4Runner mirrors: Good for adding puddle lights plus the features listed above.
ProEFX Dodge-style flip up towing mirrors: A common choice, and seem to be well liked.
Tundra mirrors (mods required): @TacoTuesday!! has done this, thread linked below
Aftermarket Tundra-style mirrors: Look great, but are apparently absolute trash. Link below.

My question is this: have I missed any other options? I'd really like a set of Tundra-style mirrors, but I would like to avoid heavy modding and the eBay specials are crap.

I like the Tundra mirrors as well. When I get to that point I'm going to attempt to use factory Toyota Tundra mirrors.

With the relatively high likelihood of a side mirror getting whacked off by a careless driver, I'm hesitant to put too much effort into the side view mirrors. It's a shame there aren't more options available. Drop-in mirrors I can justify, hours of modding I cannot.

I plan on measuring the spacing of the 3 bolts used to mount the mirrors on the off chance Hilux mirrors are compatible. I found these, but am unsure if they'll work:
    https://www.clearviewaccessories.com.au/product/toyota-hilux-2005-to-2015/
@asgardengineering was kind enough to take measurements of his Hilux's bolt spacing, so all I have to do is find the time to do the same.

Can't remember who it was, but I just saw 3rd gen mirrors on a 2nd gen and thought it looked great.

I'd like to revisit this idea. From what I can tell, bolt spacing on my 2015's side view mirrors is identical to the Hilux bolt spacing sketch above. Of course, there are a couple other considerations that will likely make modding necessary.

@caribe makaira, do you have any insight on the wiring and the connectors used for the Hilux? I found the following picture of the Hilux connector. There are only 3 wires on this model due to lack of turn signal indicator:

    s-l1600.jpg

As compared to the 2nd gen Tacoma connector (in white). Turn signal indicators are equipped, hence 4 wires are present. The left "female" portion goes to the mirror:

    tacoma.jpg

The other factor is trim mismatch, which will be hard to figure out without the mirrors in hand. I'm open to any suggestions folks may have about filling in gaps.

No specific info of a Hilux, but those 3 wires are for the remote mirror adjustment input. (UP & Down, Left & Right, Fused Power)

Understood, thank you for the information. Do you know what connector is used for the Tacoma mirror? I'd rather not cut my existing mirror wiring up to convert the Hilux mirror, since Sport mirrors with turn signals are fairly sought after.

It is not. I found a picture of that connector from a thread on here. It's off a 2013 Sport, which should be identical to the connector used on my 2015 Sport.

I can respect that. Thanks for the information! Hopefully this will get me on the right track.

I've had the Pro EFX mirrors on my truck for about 3 years now and love them. Zero issues and if you do any towing they are a no brainer!!

I’m sure they do the job well, but I can’t get over the Dodge styling. I drive a Toyota, it should look like it.

I respect all your research-I didn't even know about the Hilux option. I went with 2013 4runner mirrors (because I wanted puddle heat and turn.) It was a bit of work, but it wasn't hard. The 2015 pillars are a match for the 4runner mirrors. 3 bolts. Had to cut off the plug and feed the wires. The plug on my truck was hot. this gave me the turn signals and the articulation. I ran wires for the puddle and heat. Heat was the most challenging to do because I wanted a timer. It was a lot of wiring, but if all you want is articulation and turn signals it should be an afternoon gig. Some where on here I posted my mod with the mirrors. Good luck!

Ktjo4x4 does a folding power mirror plug and play thing. As well as a few options/variations. Anyone running them? They are something I'm interested in, the auto folding part/mechanical control to fold them.

You should post the question in the 3rd Gen Forum...
