Team O’Neil posted a pretty good TRD Off-road review.

Better performing? Like higher end suspension? Aftermarket lockers? Also, whats the cost of "the better performing" stuff and installation of said equipment, vs buying new.

Also, what is the resale of a modded truck vs a stock truck....

I hope you are happy in your SR5, and its a great truck, but lets not drink too much kool-aid here.

Wheels- 800-1k Good tires- 1,000+ Suspension...some billies will do and yup, about 3k. Then maybe 500 to install it all if not doing yourself.

Still missing lockers, crawl control etc...

Again, I like the SR5, I don't think most people need a TRD, I totally agree with you. I just don't think you can say, "I can build a better truck for cheaper". You can come close tho, and cover everything most people want. You now have a capable mall crawler! (not a dig, I'm mall crawling these days too. And you can build a better truck for YOU at that price)

If you wanted to really off road the truck in some tough spots, or went off a trail, you'd quickly see why people like their lockers.

Guy has one good point, an off road model should come with better tires. Other than that he goes on and on about the mud flaps and then sensationalizes how careful he needs to be because of them. The one “obstacle” he feels the need to back up over was silly. I’ve taken my Impreza down tougher roads than that with careful driving.

    Lol @“need” a TRD

“But sir I NEED factory shocks and a locker...”

I like the locker part. Easy peasy. But that’s all it is. Don’t even get me started on the sport.

Happy you like your SR5 Opie. One of the reasons Toyota has different trims available is because not everyone has the same wants or needs.

I needed the FACTORY TRD Off-road stickers on the side, so I bought the OR.

I fail to understand the logic. It’s not like the SR5 comes with better wheels, tires, suspension etc. Whatever money you spend to upgrade your OR you would also spend on the SR5. What you are paying for on the TRD models is a lot more then that. Better headlights, seats, keyless entry, push button start, e locker or scooped good etc. I know I am missing other items that are different. If those items mean enough to someone buy a TRD model, if not buy an SR or SR5.

You’re right. Keyless entry, pushbutton start and hood scoops mean a lot to certain people.

You're on a truck forum with a high concentration of people that barely get off the lot before they feel like slapping on new suspension and tires. Trim level has nothing to do with it here. Some people buy the OR because it simply has more tools in the toolbox.

It only takes one time getting stuck to make those tools worth every penny. Better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.

I look at the TRD off road as a package Toyota adds to the SR5. If you don't think you need, do do not want what ths OR offers especially if you plan on removing those OR features.

If you really want to offroad, it's probably better to do it in a Jeep Wrangler.

    Good review??

Between the mudflap ranting and him stating S mode starts the truck in 4th gear, I couldn't make myself watch the whole thing lol.

Yeah. Me. You cant expect me to dig my keys out whenever my muffintop is draped over my skinny jeans.

Also, the light gray headliner in the non-TRD trims looks rediculous.

Whatever it is, it reeks of poverty and/or reasonable financial planning. People here complain about the distracting glare coming from their mirror switch, and yet I dont see anybody attempting to plastidip their A-pillars.
