    US Civil War generals would instruct their troops to only use the "top row" for firewood. Well, when the top row was gone, the second row then became the "top row," so that disappeared too and so on until only the bottom row was left behind for the land owners.

    Technically, they did follow instructions. Much like putting the number 16 written on a piece of paper in their shoes and claimed they were "over 16" so they could join the Army for the great American adventure they thought the Civil War would be.
