Some folks recommend a Ford transmission support that is more firm. It is a good thought, but for me, I would worry about the loads shifting around from the other mounts? Maybe that is a senseless worry?

    Canada Eh!
I’m curious if something as simple as poly bushings would be enough? My clunking sound feels almost a little more metallic, as if there is metal on metal contact when the tranny is rotating from the torque. Maybe when it gets a little warmer I’ll go under the truck with a big bar and try to get it to move.

I’m curious if the core shifter base is hitting the tunnel. @St.Germain did you get more “clunking” when you installed your shifter?

Fellas ... serious question .. I’ve driven a manual a couple times several years apart.. always fucked up taking off and reversing . And taking off from the slightest slope..

Looking at new Tacoma’s I kind of want a manual.... would I fuck things up in it if I don’t already have it down? Getting a new truck and fucking up gears or the clutch would suck balls....

    Thanks

If you are looking at the TRD Sport it has a hill holder that will help you out since you have an issue on the inclines.

The 3rd Gen is not really any different than any other MT except in stock form the tune does not make good torque down low and there is a stupid accumulator in the clutch line that tries to slow engagement.

Getting an engine tune (search OVT) will make the motor feel normal and deleting the accumulator (search ADM) will give more clutch feel and response.

With that, the Taco is a really fun drive.

All jokes aside hill assist does work. But really gain some confidence, use some of the energy it took to admit you screwed up a time or two and learn to drive a MT. Hell if I can do it for........45+ years (yikes I'll be 62) you can do it. Take your time. Frankly this gen MT is easy peasy IMHO

It is never too late to learn and once you do you will wonder why did it take so long. I enjoy the control the MT gives you in snow, ice, hills and I live in the mtns. I have four MT vehicles, three Toyota's and a F250 diesel. I am 66 and just purchased the 2020 on March 6 - even with the situation we are in I do not regret getting the new Taco. I love driving it and wish I could do more - only 540 miles so far on it. Go for it

Mastering a manual transmission is a rite of passage to get a “full man card “.

Well, my worry for you is just getting your truck safe to home. Got anyone handy who's a manual jock that you can take with you to the dealer?

Alright I hear y’all. This is the pep talk I was hoping to get . But could I do some serious damage in the time I’m learning ?

If anything you’ll get less clutch life. If you blew anything up, I’d be impressed. There’s guys that beat on them Offroad and don’t have any problems. You’ll be fine.

I wouldn't worry too much of buggering things up. If you can walk & chew gum at the same time, you have the necessary coordination to drive a manual.

You'll be fine. The Taco is an easy drive. It is just how it all settles and you get used to it.

Aha I hope so . I just remember driving ok around the neighborhood. And then I came to a stop and when I went to take off I rolled back. And just was amazed because it didn’t even look like a slope at all. Looked flat... can’t imagine a real high stop.

Hand brake on hill, release it while you are releasing the clutch. Unless it's a sport, then it will do it for you

That is likely the worst and yet it will resolve itself in a short time on how to manage incline starts. If nothing else use your emergency brake and start finding the balance between the gas and clutch release with the release of the EBrake at the same time. Don't worry about stalling - it is all part of the learning process.
