Now you done gone did it, pissed off the OR / IG crowd....:crapstorm:

Anyway, I would be in a Sr-5 or SR if I could have gotten the V-6 Double Cab in a MT. MT is was non-negotiable for me.

I'll need a set too, as soon as you tell me what's on the truck that was included from the TRD program. Other than the logos.

    I'll wait.

Time's up. Guess I'll stay TRD sticker free. ;)

Look. If I put down 5k in hardware on my SR, it would be (component durability and serviceability) a more competent off road vehicle than any trim available from TRD. But if you SPEAK (or type) this voodoo on this forum, you will get some hate.

*off road competency 5k build does not include heated seats, pushy buttons, skewps, hemispherical climate controlz, Apple whatever, map whatever, door lock mind-link function or whatever else people label as “PrOgReSs”

Because we’re talking about a Toyota pickup aka the off-road utility platform of yore. This truck is not and should not be a fucking day care or limousine #upussies

But why not both? With a trd you can off-road in the very lap of luxury dude. It's like having a nice glass of Chianti with my big Mac.

Honestly if you ask me the TRD-OR is the best packaged Tacoma for the Money. Yes you can say oh you can install a rear locker yada yada. But it's actually not as CHEAP as the guy makes it sound. The lockers alone are going to be a grand. Installing them will almost double that if you don't have good shops in your area and are forced to go to 4WP lol. All you get more of the tech options which IMO I love. You don't realize how badass keyless entry is until your carrying a young child and a bag of groceries and have to fumble around finding keys.

honestly the ONLY GRIPE I have with Toyota's packaging is the tires they put on the TRD Models. All of them should have at least come with BFG KO2's or one of the competing A/T tires.

A true Toyota enthusiast should be able to install their own components, or learn.

I don’t know man. I just don’t fumble my keys. We have company highlanders that have keyless. I’ve never been at a point in my life where I would think the perk of keyless is “badass”

Can you charge the fob on the phone charging pad?

Might be practical if this was possible.

Isn’t that basically true for just about any vehicle? You could always buy a stock low end version of any car truck and make it faster/bigger/better than the high end version? I think for some people it’s a little easier to buy a truck almost the way they want it like a TRD OR and add a few thousand dollars in things they like to it instead of trying to come up with 10k to turn an sr5 into the TRD OR they would really want. But this is why there is different models of trucks. I agree that some stuff is useless like crawl control and I could do without but it’s also nice have the factory look and seamless integration of some stuff like the locker.

Oh I can install my own components. I've rebuilt small block chevy's, transmissions, Installed gears, lifts, blah blah . I'm just going by what the guy in the video said.

And you didn't follow my example clearly on the the keys fumbling :)

Not to mention you'r basically financing those upgrades over a period of the term of your loan at the low interest rate you get. So charging all those upgraded on a credit card ends up costing you way more if you can't afford to pay for the upgrades CASH which if you could you probably would just afford the TRD Sport or Off-Road in the first place lol.

Not necessarily true. Tacomas, Jeeps and only a few others are unique in this regard. Stripped down, all Tacomas are the same truck. Same drivetrain, same performance with bolt-on mods. Beyond there, the only differences boil down to interior and comfort/convenience gadgets, which most owners wouldn't care about upgrading or swapping into a base model. Can you say the same about other cars? Is it worth it to buy a base Impreza and turn it into a WRX? Or a base BMW 325i and turn it into an M3? Of course not.

Other than that I hear ya.

I'm surprised no one has brought up one of the biggest advantages of buying an OR from Toyota. All of the parts you would add to an SR5 to be comparable to an OR do not have a factory warranty. The rear lockers, extra elecronics, etc in the OR are all covered by Toyota's Warranty. In my case, my OR came with a dealer installed 3" Icon lift, Icon wheels, 285 tires, and some other off road goodies that are covered under their own warranty. That alone made it worth buying the OR over an SR5 for me.
