Sorry, I left before 5. I'm back in FW and already unloaded/dropped the trailer.

Welp, I just got the lay off call. 11 years and 9 months was a good run for an oil company. Now to figure out the unemployment system...

I worked for Halliburton. I was a Lead Tech that took an Electrical Engineer role December of 18. I'm not a card carrying EE, just earned the role through experience and knowledge. It's actually ok. I hated that role. It just paid me well and it was salary. I'm better at working on things hands on. So now I have an extended vacation.

Yeah, I haven't gotten the package yet, but it's a minimum of one weeks pay for each year of service. They said we'll be getting an "enhanced package"... One guy I know from another shop got 1.25week pay per year. So we'll see. I'm not too stressed, I just need the batflu to calm down so the company I want to work for will realize they can't live without me... :D

Just an FYI I know when I got laid off last year I wasnt allowed to collect an unemployment check until after my severance pay coverage. I know things may not be the same as it was for me but figured I'd give you the heads up.

Thanks Jason. The HR guy told us on the call that we could go ahead and apply today. That process is pretty frustrating.

Yup you can still apply just not receive any checks. I applied the day after I was let go so I was ready if I didnt find a job and was all setup to take the checks as soon as I qualified.

Start checking websites for Lockheed/Bell/Raytheon. All three are perpetually hiring, and don’t have the volatility of the oil patch.

Hey man, welcome! I got that call last week. Boss said I'm on the "call back list" when things pick back up. Not too worried about it right now, just been keeping busy with projects around the house. Oh, and sleep.

Correct. @imthejaybird can get set up in the system but cannot collect until his 11.9 weeks of severance is up. The earlier set up, the better

My severance is a lump sum. Technically I'm no longer employed, and thus qualify for unemployment benefits. I've already submitted my info for this week and will receive payment for the part of this week that I'm not working.

Interesting. I couldn’t collect unemployment years ago until my one month severance was up

Given the fact that 99.9% of the population is unemployed right now, they've changed up a lot of things.

I think it all depends on how the company completes the process. For me, it’s all over with except the cashing of the check. Some companies pay you out until the end of your “time”. In the later case, you’re still on the books. In my case, I’m not. But like Bryce said, a lot has changed recently.
