How do I remove doors?

With summer creeping up and Spring being so hot right now in LA how do I remove doors and should I ? Is it a pita? Illegal? Tips? Thx

 

You just want people to give you answers instead of taking 1 minute to search.

Yes legal, just require your mirror to see at least 300ft behind you.

Easy to remove.

This is of course if you're driving in CA.

I refuse to look up other states.

 

I had a similar thought a while back when I owned one, and its a pain for a taco that isn't designed for it like a jeep.

Keep in mind you will lose your speakers and also your mirrors, the later of which may get you a ticket. There are a couple companies that make tube doors and also doorless mirrors for 1st gens to get around that.

Secondly, the doors help with body flex, and if you run without them long enough, the cab can deform a smidge, but enough for door seals to potentially not work correctly, or you may not be able to get them to fit back on if you wheel hard enough for long enough.

 

In California, pretty much everything that has working lights and signals, and will pass a smog test, is legal...

Just out of curiosity, do you either not have A/C or is your A/C busted?

 

I agree. Taking them off is easy, putting them back on and getting everything to line back up is going to be the hard part. Make sure you have plenty of hinge shims on hand.

 

Also, I know a guy who got pulled over in his 1994 Toyota 4x4 got driving without doors for some stupid reason; It’s considered an equipment violation, and he didn’t get points on his license, so he just paid the ticket and kept driving around without doors!

 

If this is a serious question, unplug your door wiring harness behind the kick panel and it’s four bolts total at the door. Two per hinge. Remove door.
