    I'm just a lowly developer

I don't get to make the multimillion dollar third party deals. I just get to play "Connect Fork into Socket" til something works

He may be stuck because one of his big clients has a contract with them. Since they are a 3rd party, he may not have a contract or SLA to make them fix their shit.

    That really sucks.

Deleted my entire comment lol in my line of work we make our 3rd party hold up to their end of the bargain otherwise we can find someone else to do said work.

Most likely its much more difficult with software development and integration; even more so with what you're working with but lawyers and non disclosures help fix that I guess....

    Jake, keep on keeping on

It's like being hired to put together a playground that someone else decided to order, is set on using, and you have no choice of returning

The box comes and you're missing 1/3 of the hardware and the instructions inexplicably don't cover crucial parts of the construction. you ask for parts and help and the best they can do is tell you tough shit, make it work with what we have in the box. So you do. And you warn the monkeys not to do X thing because it's not safe. Don't do Y thing or Z will happen and we don't want Z to happen.

Except, instead of a playground it's a multimillion, multi year software contract negotiated by people six levels above your paygrade. Tough shit. Make it work

I babysat a grinder all day. Big ol Blanchard grinder... And I do mean old. Thing is from the early 60s and still can grind a damn good finish entirely parallel within a thou easy. I'll have to take a picture of it tomorrow, but it's kinda amazing that the 3 phase motor is original and unserviceable.

Old machinery will keep on trucking as long as you have the resources to fix it when the time comes. Most of our corrugators at work are from the 50's.
