DDMTuning HID kit in Headlights & Fog Lights, Billet grill, Took off air intake, K&N Filter, Tint, Vent visors, Amp and Speakers. URD fuel pump kit. 131k Miles Fix/change: Compass/Temp, did the Transmission Flush, rear dif oil, cut tail pipe off, fog light fix. Coming soon: Dash light led change.
I'm about to buy HID's for both headlights and fog lights and inquired about what watt bulbs they sell. The guy said the 55 watt kits produce too much heat on the housings and the glare is horrible for oncoming traffic. I wanted to know who has 55 watt and has it melted anything???? Any feedback is welcomed.

I'm going to buy the 4300k and do the retro fit, but just wanted some input from owners on the 35 watt vs 55 watt.

In my brights I have the 55 watt 4500k and in the projectors/driving lights I have 35 watt 12k (both ddm tunning)..and so far I've been able to run the brights for at least 15mins without feeling any amount of heat that seemed dangerous to the housing. But the dif is day and night between 35w and 55w. I'd say 35w is better for the city and for sure less blinding.

55w or 35w is for the ballast, and has nothing to do with the bulbs. if you care to know, on hidplanet.com. its been discussed that 55w ddm ballasts have melted shrouds on hid projectors. cheaper quality aftermarket bulbs do run hotter than oem bulbs. there is always a risk that you will melt the reflector with a cheap bulb

A 55w outside of a projector style housing WILL provide too much glare, leading to oncoming being blinded and also harrassment from the cops. I would not buy 55W HIDs for a stock headlight housing, i'd do the 35's. If you do a projector light, then the 55's are awesome. I've got them and love them! :)

    Cut off line with projectors:

stick with 35w ballast. 55w is too much and the light output isnt as clean

TL projectors, BMW shrouds. Another member (all.on.black) bought everything and did the retro for me as part of a swap for one of my bumpers. :D

Yessir. The output is awsome on the brights, and the lows (they're 12k so I kinda sacraficed good lighting for good looks) are good enough for me.Ill find some pics and get them up.

I have the 55w with Hi/Low in my stock lenses on my '09 and lenses are ok and light output is clean. I did use 55w in aftermarket lenses on another truck and those were bright, but put out too much glare.
