    Time-based controllers are no good IMO. A proportional-based one will treat you much better.

    If/when I get a heavier trailer, i will definitely be getting a proportional. The cheapo time one is sufficient for hauling my tent trailer.

    Added the Tekonsha P3 last night. Mounted under the dash above my right leg. So far no clearance issues with my knee. One thing I never noticed while researching is the manual brake lever on the underside of the unit. Does anyone ever find themselves using that lever?

    Here is something interesting. Went for a drive, tekonsha hooked up, no trailer.

    Turn the truck off, all lights messages off on dash. I flip the brake lever on the controller and the dash lights up saying to push the brake pedal in and hit the start button to turn the engine on.

    Anyone here experience that?

    Is this a different harness than the one required for Gen 2 Taco? I still have mine all wrapped up in a box from my 2012, and I'm picking up the new trailer this Friday.
    Edit. GEN 2 HARNESS WILL NOT FIT GEN 3.

    After some more reading thanks to @RedBeard1 for this install pic. I found it stuffed under the carpet and followed the lead off of the back of the harness holder

    using the Tekonsha 3031-P harness last weekend. I grounded the extra wire on the bolt under the dash where I also grounded my fog light switch.

    Only used once to tow home my new to me trailer but the brakes work on the trailer with it connected and it’s easy to use, adjust, and manipulate with its placement in the cubby so I’m happy so far.

    Both are Stock - built correct from the start.
    For 3rd gens there’s a company that makes a plate to cleanly put your controller in the little cubby left of the steering wheel. Sorry, don’t remember who, but Google knows.

    The manual brake lever is used to check sensitivity of brakes at slow speed. Also very useful to control trailer sway.
