Unfortunately, finding them seems to be my speciality. But we carry plenty of extra gas and water. I will see if I can find the route we take sometimes. We don't go all of the way but it pays to be prepared just in case. But, in general, you are totally right.

Never ever have I ever thought this. Maybe I am too damn young (turning 39 in a few days), but I usually enjoy a cold beer after a long day of skiing. My favorite as a coach is standing in the pouring rain at ~32.1 degrees for 8+ hours happy I am not the athlete is the GS suit ready rip. All worth it when I see smiles on my athletes faces. Now, then I enjoy a cold beer with fellow coaches and parents.

As an aside, I just watched the whole video and I really didn't think it was that bad at all. I judge things based on what I can possibly learn from these kinds of things and frankly I found it educational -- which is easy because I don't know a lot.

A few comments on the video that stood out to me:

    > A lot of people are not experts. Believe me, I know because I am one of them. There is no shame in that as everyone is ignorant about something. So I can see how for someone who is an off road expert there would be things about the TRD OR that would drive him nuts. Understandable from his perspective. He runs a rally school (or something like that) so I appreciated hearing what annoyed him -- I found that informative.

    > He is absolutely right about the tires.

    > I didn't find the piece as negative as I thought it would be based on the comments here. He actually seems to like Toyota and does give praise where it is due.

    > For a novice like me he makes a good point on the mud flaps. Yes, he makes it repeatedly but I do think it is the kind of thing that would frustrate me if I was driving on a trail like that. I was not aware. Makes me realize maybe I want to find software / more flexible mud flaps. Anyone have any good suggestions?

    > I completely understand for a guy focused on teaching people how to drive off road that having a truck with things like Crawl and that is terrible ... I understand his perspective. I would guest most people don't even use those features and perhaps they are there just as a marketing gimmick. I will play around with them and use them if appropriate. Having them there doesn't bother me though.

    > Overall, I will drive on roads like what he is driving on -- probably much worse. I am not sure that is really "off roading" though. It's just driving back roads to me. I liked his points about the mud flaps, the seat position and the hood. Things that I will keep a heads up for -- better to know about them than not.

    > He is right that you can probably get a cheaper truck and build one up that is more off road capable. But that assumes you have the expertise to do it and that you have access to the kinds of people who can help you do it -- not to mention the time to focus on it and the constant cash out of pocket. More importantly for me then you are building a truck instead of driving a truck. I'd rather do the latter but appreciate the former very much.

    > I will say I don't think he understands Toyota's business model. He says all of the trucks are identical up and down the line and that the only thing that changes is some of the cosmetic things that you can add to certain models. He says that as more of a critique but I think Toyota would say that is their business model. Create a platform and let each market pick the customization they want ... and if you want to do it all on your own then you can do that, too. It is why the entire aftermarket for Toyota is huge -- and places like Tacomaworld are so vital. I would also say it is a key reason why Toyota's are so reliable -- they have one common platform that they build. That is the flip side. Of course, the market has spoken with their dollars and it is why the Tacoma as a platform and a product is so bloody successful.

Or during a long day of skiing. I never miss a chance to shoot the shit with the groomers and all the people that make it possible when they get off and want to throw a few back in the lodge. Only 26 and one of my favorite parts of the ski day is being exhausted after throwing down some fast laps and enjoying a cold one

Agree. I didn't find it terrible. I found it helpful. Any thoughts on more flexible mud flats? I was just going to take them off but he makes a good point about it causing damage to the frame, etc. See? I told you I didn't know anything. :)

Take some pics off-roading your truck. We’d all love to see them anyway.

You seem to know the springs. Let’s hit up Eagle Rock and Saran Wrap

My favorite ones are the big conex box sized gas cans with a gas pump at one end. So temporary looking.

And probably the shittiest gas. And the only gas.

Oh I dunno. Maybe heavily inconvenienced. There's plenty o traffic on the main road.

Now get out in the boonies along the Canol road or something and yeah, better bring some food.

I want to try the Dempster Highway Drive (and that area):
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SHp6Ot-Ykhw

But I tend to stay here more in the NY, Quebec area. Check out that video. It is a road but also an airstrip.
