It was funny, family beer politics. My pops drank Bud. My Ma's big irish side of the family drank Coors. Every family reunion I could feel everyone watching me at the fridge to see which one I chose. It was like choosing sides.

Don't mind a Busch every now and then. I have maybe a case that lasts a month or two. Like to get a mix and match of different new to me craft brews, ipa ect.

My dad and my uncle were (probably are still) Busch light guys. They had to put in three more vats and hire six people when my uncle started drinking. But he’s not an alcoholic my mom says. It’s her brother, lol. He lived with my parents when he turned 8 (10 years older than me) after my grandparents passed, I never could figure out why he slept until lunch on Saturday mornings until I got older.

True. My dad drank Busch so I'm sure it carried down to me. Plus, if you're stealing beer out of the fridge when you're 15, you ain't overly picky.

I was more liquor in my younger years. The liquor was good quality but the beer was the cheapest stuff so yuck to that. But we drank a lot lol.

I used to leave notes with my dads hidden liquor bottles asking him to stop drinking. It didn’t work, I turned into him at 20 and quit cold turkey at 35 when my wife got pregnant with our son. I told her if my son grows up to be an alcoholic he’s not learning it from his dad like I did and I haven’t touched it since.

Thats awesome. I wouldn't say I've ever been close to be thought of as having a problem, just typical weekend shennangins. I hated and have never like the feeling the next day so I out grew that quickly. Do enjoy a cold one from time to time.

I’m exact opposite, I drank to get drunk. No other reason. Never could figure out how to have just one, or 6. Had to have 12-18.

It's weird how people differ in their drinking. I lived with my parents for 18 years and there was not a single day that my dad didn't drink. None. Zero. Flu? No problem...he's drinking. Attending a funeral...he was packing a cooler. Before work? Wouldn't have surprised me.
Then there are the weekend drunks. That's pretty much what I was. Rarely hit the sauce during the week but I could be coaxed into. But I tried to make up for the 4 or 5 days a week that I didn't drink by drinking extra on the weekends.
Then there are the social drinkers. Much respect for these folks. Kind of a 'take it or leave it' attitude. I didn't know people like that existed when I was growing up.
Then there are the true rare birds. Never drank at all, not a drop. My best hunting buddy (he's also 52) has never tasted alcohol. Not a religious thing either, he just hasn't wanted to. He grew up in a very small country town...perfect for a young man to sow his oats, yet he didn't. It's fantastic and mind-blowing at the same time.
Then there are the people that use to drink...quit...and now think that anyone that drinks is an idiot. No respect from me. Remember; you were that same 'idiot' at one time.

I get it. I drank 5-6 nights a week and got up and went to work the next day. Saturdays started early. I have no problem with people who drink, I have no problem being around it. My problem is I don’t know when to say when so I can’t drink. My wife drinks every now and then, I have no problem with it. She didn’t for a long time for my benefit when I quit.

Do you miss it? (The drinking; not the wrecks and tickets)

I have an uncle who I’d say has a can open by 10am 7 days. Probably gets up around 4 or 5 drinks a pot of coffee and starts on the beer after that and that’s all he drinks the rest of the day. To say he is a functioning alcoholic is an understatement.
