That's what "one of those is" that's the only reason I still live at home. I dont want to pay 2300 for a decent place to rent. I'd rather buy a place. But my parents are never home so I pretty much have to take care of our acre too.

 

Not sure if it'll crash as hard as it did back in 09, but I managed to snag my first house during the recession and my mortgage was only ~1800 including taxes for a 4 bedroom + den house. You could rent out a few rooms to some friends and you'll barely be paying anything for a house. The taking care of your parents place is the harder part of the equation though.

 

It's a good trade off for me. I mow the lawn, make sure the house is locked up, do the trash stuff and take care of our dog, but I dont pay for rent, still have to pay for everything else but I think I'm still young enough that it's not weird I'm still at home. Just waiting for it to drop low enough so that a 50k down payment is substantial. Just looking for a little townhouse type deal for now. I'm tired of taking care of a lawn. As a full time student and employee I hardly have time
