I'm thinking of trying to copy this video
Tekonsha seems like a popular brand

What do you all prefer and why?

    Tekonsha P3.

I liked that the position of the mounting didn’t have to be level. Also liked the multiple settings on it. Read reviews for a long time before deciding on it. It’s worked flawlessly. In the end I pulled the tray out to the right of the steering wheel and made a bracket out of aluminum bar stock to mount it there. Also liked that they make a plug n play harness for the Tacoma.

I also went with the Tekonsha based on the number of positive reviews... Not sure if it's that much better than others, but it works and is easy to setup. Finding the factory connector to attach it to was a different story though...

Believe I purchased my controller and connector from etrailer.com. They’ve always been pretty good to deal with.

I use the redarc tow pro elite. I've had it for little over a year now and have had zero issues. It's kind of pricey but I like it because the only part that's visable is a little knob that can be mounted anywhere

I've got an older Tekonsha that I brought over from my previous vehicle. Think I got the wiring adapter from eTrailer too. I originally bought it from the good reviews. It's probably 15+ years old but I rarely pull a trailer.

Small stuff but not for long!
How important is it for the P3 to be mounted "level"?

    It's not an issue.
