It helps to improve ride quality. By making the rear of the frame nice and rigid, it allows the suspension to actually work and do its thing. This is especially beneficial off-road both going fast and crawling. Crawling gets you all twisted up so the more rigid your frame the better. This is why you see people boxing the back half of the frame. It’s a C channel but it’s not uncommon for people to remove the bed and weld a plate on it.

hopefully this makes sense because I just woke up.

I can’t say I blame you for this during these times. Smart shopping Randy.

First the direct quote then a 2020 digestion of it.

    Direct Quote
I'm not really sure as to the direction of this build, aside from making it reliable, yet very capable off-road and comfortable to take camping. This won't be an over-the-top build with a shit loadof money invested, but I promise it'll bea fun one! Anyways, onto the truck.

    2020 Breakdown
    1) I'm not really sure as to the direction of this build, aside from making it reliable. Still holding true to the confused state of the build.

    2) yet very capable off-road and comfortable to take camping. Capable off-road yes! But when was the last time you went camping?

    3) This won't be an over-the-top build with a shit loadof money invested. :anonymous: Well at least you tried!

    4) I promise it'll bea fun one! Anyways, onto the truck. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

You know, that's a great question. I don't know if my trip to TN counts since I was in a yurt.

Question. By bobbing the bed, will you ever be able to do a bed platform & sleep in while camping again?

I have to run to the metal supply store anyways so I'm going to pick up some square tubing to redo my archive garage cross tube. I built this one way back when I still had that shitty flux core welder and while it works, it's pretty meh. I'm going to tuck the new one up a little bit, not necessarily because I expect to hit it on anything, but with the bed bobbed it'll be so exposed so I think it'll look a bit cleaner this way. Plus the bar will look cooler.

That hadn't crossed my mind. Gone are the days of being able to sleep in the bed of my truck.

Probably not. I feel like between my upper limit strap cross-member and my HH cross-member, that adds enough rigidity for me. I just really don't feel like removing the bed.

I guess the time to do it was during the bed-bob

I thought about doing this. Then, I thought about cutting all that shit out, boxing the frame and making a new crossmember from some DOM.

The bed remained in place during all of this so that doesn't really help me.

Yeah. I want to but all my air stuff is plumbed into the bed, so that extra 20 minutes of work has turned me off.

I also ordered some steel diamond plate to cap the top of the bumper. There's a slight gap between the bumper and body and I thought this would be a cool way to close that. I'll weld it to the bumper and get it all sealed and blended and whatever. Paint the whole bumper satin black, and then use a spray bedliner on the diamond plate portion. It'll act like a step getting in and out of the bed.
