Good morning all - TGIF like that makes a difference these days. The majority of us are all home anyway. Been on a thread last night and this morning trying to find a place to do a little off-roading and camping. Looks like some counties are a little sticky about getting into the back country, have to be a resident to get to some of the BLM and NF roads in some areas. At least it is supposed to get warmer this weekend, high in the mid 50's Yee Ha!!!!

Can't get a haircut, my monthly cut was due when this hit, now I am almost 3 months behind. Still not like the 70s, but getting there.

I gave myself a haircut last night. I give it a B-. I've paid for worse.

 

I am jealous, I give myself a hair cut every week - or I should say I buzz what I have left every week -

 

Man, I dunno about where you're at, but the traffic around here is nuts anymore.
I've tried to escape town twice so far, but I never get very far doing 45 in a 55.

 

We live about 48 miles west of COS - Florissant / Lake George area. Heading into Park county is getting busier but when you get into Alma or Fairplay they are a little funky right now.

 

We have a trip planned for southern Utah this July....hoping we will be able to go. never been out that way.

 

It is pretty but it will not be green. Lot's of mtn biking and hiking in that area plus some great national Parks. Very arid so hydrate, hydrate, hydrate, that will take care of the dryness but more importantly the altitude change you will experience. I suggest you start drinking more than your normal intake of H2O at least a week before your trip to help acclimate to the altitude.

 

Public lands here are getting more visitors than normal. Not crowded but well occupied. If I may make a recommendation (should you get the opportunity to escape for a while), call the Ranger Stations and/or Field Office that manages your destination and see if there are facilities you'd normally use and ask if they're open.

Thank you for that, I have tried to reach out to a few but have not had much success, we live near a National Monument and they are shut down, no one is there plus the Colorado Parks and Wildlife is short staff right now. What we engaged was county sheriff's which do not have authority over the BLM it is just getting there. The small mtn communities are very skitty right now and understandably so.

 

It can be frustrating. Not all offices are manned or you can't always reach someone over the phone. If you get a recording and have the opportunity to leave a name and number, it's a good indication they're getting hammered by phone calls and they're backed up. If they have an email address, shoot them an email. They're getting tons of those also, but they can usually answer those faster as well as remotely if they're working from home.

I have been using the BLM and Federal sites to see what is open, so far nothing is closed other than the National parks and monuments - it is just getting to the access areas that has been a challenge. The sheriff's thus far have been polite but they are nervous over the amount of non-local travelers while we have been under a Stay-at-Home mandate. CO is slowly lessening the house arrest starting today so I hope that will soften up the mtn counties. I have my favorite areas and know where I want to go it is just getting there without imposing on those small mtn communities I have to drive through.

We did close the facilities (restrooms, rv dump, water points, vault toilets). Our office is closed but you can call or email. There are a few of us in the field but I just stick to my work.

 

I can understand that, we stay off the beaten path and off the grid. Be safe out there. I am hoping the movement for a lot of us gets easier in the coming weeks, I may be looking at using a new GMU for elk hunting this fall and need to get up in there to do some recon. We keep to the wilderness and national forests and stay away from the BLM lands - too many yahoo's on quads pressing the herds on BLM land - can't use quads on NF or NW. Don't mind the hiking in and packing out, at least if we do run into other hunters they are serious. Too much work for most hunters.

 

OUCH!!! None of that sounds fun at all, and those ribs are going to be super annoying to say the least. Hurts to breathe!
