They are in the 2u case. This case d-214-matx, just isn't the greatest, with the mobo, ram, cooler I have you can't fit 3.5" drives in the front bays. The drives I'm using right now are temporary so I got a 5.25 hotswap bay for it.

I’ve got a good amount of credit card reward points so I’m wondering if I update my power supply and gpu now, or wait for the new cards later this year :spending:

Absolutely 100% wait. This COVID stuff has a lot of items either completely out of stock or overpriced. Let this stuff calm down a little bit more before you buy.

Of course, a deal is a deal, though. Newegg had 5700XT's for $350 yesterday which is a killer deal. Just look at historical prices before you jump, especially on PSU's.

I was thinking the same thing. I'm like my i7-4790k at load is around 60C so mid 40's on load for hours folding is very good.

I remember my AMD Phenom II X4.

Weren't we just talking about that CPU last week on Discord?

Yeah I’ve noticed psu’s and gpu’s are sold out and hard to find. I’m in no rush though. My 580 will do fine to hold me over until the new cards.

Just ordered an Asus x570 prime-p and after looking for am4 brackets for my old Tuniq 120 tower I'm ordering either an nh-u12 or d15

Since storage spaces is screwed up and won’t let me add drives can I just copy my files from the storage pool onto an external drive, and then use another software to setup something similar to storage pool and assign the original drive letter to it, copy the files from the external drive back internal and expect to have few hiccups?
Also, is there a good software alternative to storage spaces?

Just to clarify, you used a program to make a Raid storage array and now it won't let you add additional drives? If that's the case, there is nothing OS critical on the array, and you can get the files off the existing array then what you're looking at doing should work.

I've never really heard of people creating flexible arrays in Windows and having them stay stable. Usually people do that in Linux on a dedicated server or NAS.

    The ole goat lives again!
    • Intel i5 3570k OC'd to 4.4Ghz
    • 16GB DDR3 1600Mhz
    • MSI GTX970 (Yes, it has so much GPU sag it's supported by a wooden dowel)
    • 240GB SSD Windows Boot Drive
    • 2TB HDD 7200RPM RAID0 Storage Drive
    • RaidMax Alpha White Case
    • Thermaltake Smart 700W PSU
    • No-name 2.4GHz WiFi Card
    • Despite there being a drive bay, there's no optical drive.
Work & ultra-light gaming PC for the wife. Should get a few more years out of this thing.

    Just a few thoughts:
    • I snagged the Thermatake 700W PSU from Best Buy for $55, which is a great deal, but there is only 1x VGA output (8pin x2) which was a bit surprising for a 700W PSU. Also the CPU power cable was almost too short to reach the top of the MOBO. If I had a taller case or oriented the PSU a different way it would not have reached.
    • The RaidMax Alpha case does look to be a very pretty case for only $45. The smoked side panel window is plastic, not tempered glass, so significantly more prone to scratches but shouldn't be an issue. The cable management options are adequate and the build quality is above my expectations for a $45 case. The RGB front panel lighting is very well done, too.
    • The GTX970 is still hanging in there after all of these years. Before doing any voltage tweaking it hit a 1400Mhz+ overclock on the core (base clock on a GTX970 is around 1150-1200 so a near 250MHz overclock with no voltage changes). I'm very impressed by the MSI cooler. It's near silent compared to my old EVGA GTX970.
    • RAID0 with 7200RPM drives is still quite impressive in 2020. Obviously it's no where near as fast as an SSD, but it holds its own in large files and load times.

After 8 months all of the air bubbles finally dissappated in my cooking system. Idle temps dropped a bit, 2700x and 2080ti sit at 33c so I'm pretty happy about that. Old pic shows the air bubble in the EK CPU block that was an ocd eye sore lol

I just ordered a pcie(2) to NVME adapter, I figure transfer speeds should be better than usb3 5gbps

Correct, the software was windows storage spaces but non of the drives were OS drives (this is probably the reason that storage spaces doesn’t allow the C drive to be included).
Thanks, I’ll try to finish the file copy tonight after work and see how it turns out.

Really I’m just trying to be lazy, I want the speed of my SSD’s but the capacity of the 4 TB HDD that I just installed.

    Pretty.

If you wanna cook you should switch out that 2700X for a 3950X. I'm just happy when I fold and it stays under 80c lol.

Isn't the 3900x less efficient than the 3950x? For some reason I was thinking the 3900x ran even hotter but I could be mistaken.

    Nice

I use to have a i5-3570k OC'd to 4.4Ghz also. I sold that rig to my buddy. It had a GTX 770 in it and he upgraded to the GTX 1060. It's a solid rig.

Oh the memories. To date, I still think my EVGA GTX770 was the best looking GPU I've ever owned.

Yes and no. Without PBO enabled the 3900X runs a bit hotter because the 3950X is better binned for roughly the same TDP. With PBO enabled though the 3950X ignores it's TDP limits and will run hotter than the 3900X. It also doesn't help that some people run the 3900X under the Wraith Cooler, which can't really handle it, and complain they can't get good temperatures. Both the 3900X and 3950X should be air tower cooled, under a large radiator AIO, or custom loop cooled.

I can't get behind the gold accents though I get why some people love them. The Titan V is a good example. It's a beautiful design but the gold looks bad in most cases.

I also love how the older high end cable sets on high end PSUs would come with that awesome cable wrap yet still use Ketchup and Mustard cable colours at the connector lol.
