Built mine last week for my new 2020.

I ended up doing the split design. My dimensions were 31 x 23.5, 31 x 20, 21 x 23.5, 21 x 20 (inches) using 3/4 inch plywood. I used gate hardware on the back to latch on to the strikers on the back wall. Thanks for the idea, @Fixedwing.

One thing to remember if you guys do this design: use a few strips of electrical tape to keep the gate hardware from rattling.

Also, I wouldn't go any wider than 52 inches. I originally tried 54.5 as stated earlier, but it did not fit.

 

So I'm in lockdown due to Covid19.. Anybody able to build a platform that lets you put your seats up without taking the platform out?? I can always just toss the platform in my shell so it's not a huge deal, but it would be cool if I didn't have to. I bought the plywood and hinges today, going to look to grab the upholstery material and some sort of foam cushion for the wall panels tomorrow.

I have a few custom cushions on order from foamorder.com. Was able to choose the exact size, type of foam, thickness, and material.

Ended up going with 2 inches thick, and sunbrella for the fabric. I had one cushion made for the the entire back seat row, and one that'll accommodate the 2-seat section for my split design platform. Should be nice. Hopefully no delays with the current state of events.

 

Stumbled on this thread and have been thinking of doing something similar for a while. Followed the original plans and it came it out great!

What's an approx cost on this? Our dog has bad joints so having a nice soft bed is really helpful. Although, if she's standing on it that may make her less stable :shrug:

Could've been about $80 or so cheaper if I went with lesser quality materials. However, I'm glad I got what I did. The medium everflex foam is certainly sturdy enough for my 75 lb dog to stand up fine. He too has some joint issues, and now he loves riding around on his comfy platform.

 

^Thanks for that info. That price sounds about right, although a little more than I'd expected for the cover. But then again now that I think about it I think that is consistent to the custom bench seat pads we had made a few years back.

 

Made a variation of the platform for my 2020. I removed the seat bottom (2 bolts) as I needed more room for a full sized greyhound (65 lbs, 26" at the shoulder). This gives you ~10" more platform space, front to back. I tried the original plans but there wasn't enough leg room for a hound laying down.

I also used a window sash handle installed on the back of the plywood under the seat strike to prevent the the dog's weight from levering the front of the base. Used a clip to lock it in place. Everything was made to fit tightly and is solid under her weight.

3/4" plywood for the base, 1/2" for the back.

Also cut the carpeting to be able to install the hinges and keep them somewhat covered. threw a blanket on top and called it good.

 

This is amazing. My old man Moose has become more and more unstable in the car with age. My wife has a Subaru wagon we generally use when we take him on road trips (the words “wife’s” and “wagon” are about as fun as they sound, but more convenient for the old guy......and my dog). We have a trip to the mountains coming up with him, and this seems like it’ll be the perfect solution. Building this week.

edit: I now use the ramp just up to the floor, rather than straight to the platform. Less steep for the dog, and works just as well

 

I have that exact ramp for him already (he hates it but will use it with the right motivation), and was concerned it would be too steep to the platform. I'll try it out to see if he can do it. Otherwise its the old heave-ho to lift his 80lbs into the truck. I'll update this week once I get this built.
