Team O’Neil posted a pretty good TRD Off-road review.

That’s just it though. OR owners aren’t offended, they are laughing at comments about equal performance. If people want to drive their truck down a road that an Impreza can handle, that’s their prerogative and don’t need the extra performance but that doesn’t mean their performance is equal.

Aftermarket lockers can be added easily but are expensive and aren’t covered under factory warranties. So you are going to spend another $2k+ on an ARB with compressor or a Harrop with labor and no real warranty. Meanwhile the OR owner like myself has a 100k warranty on their locker...

If what the OP paid for the SR5 is any indication of “savings” then it’s more feasible to get the OR

Got it, thanks for clarifying that. I’m that guy that takes a 97 Chevy Malibu up a rocky hill that most 4x4 truck owners wouldn’t go up to go shooting, jumps an 87 Mazda 323 and breaks the rear spindles and wheel bearings, and takes the company golf cart through a 2 foot puddle while my feet are on the seat pushing the gas pedal with a broom and gets stuck kinda guy haha.

damn that blows, death wobble always starts where something is allowing just a little play or too much runout for the most part, but it could also be something as small as the toe adjustment which most people overlook. I’ve worked on jeeps/trucks that got rid of death wobble by simply adding a 1/16th-1/8 inch toe out instead of toe in, and I’ve done some that literally take the entire suspension to be replaced to find the culprit. For example I did a complete axle swap on a Jeep recently, literally brand new everything on it that I personally installed, welded, ect.. to ensure it was tits, turned out all we needed to get rid of the death wobble that the Jeep has was new wheels. One of the wheels was just slightly bent and was causing the death wobble in the old front axle and then also in the new axle. We were doing the swap for strength, the wobble wasn’t the reason for the swap and narrowed it down to that. Btw 2 of the shops we got the tires balanced at said nothing about the bent wheel. Les swab ultimately put in on a road force balancer while I was standing watching everything zero out perfectly to end up finding the problem. Death wobble can suck ass at times.

    We should be friends.

I have tons of stories involving an 87 Omni and seeing where it could and couldn't go lol.

Hahaha nice, the Mazda 323 looks pretty damn close to the same, it always Impressed me with how far it actually got Offroad and then I drove it home. My brother and I bought an 1988 daihatsu charade for $300 one time. The front suspension was so trashed you could repeatedly dump the clutch and hit the front brakes and if you did it enough you could get that bastard to hop in the front like a low rider. We could for sure be friends.

I took my 1982 Celica off-roading once when I was 16. Nothing that impressive, but I did manage to hit a rock and put a nice gouge in my oil pan. Luckily, nothing worse than cosmetic. But the next time I went to work on it, my Dad got underneath and saw the gouge. He said, "What'd you do, take this thing 4 wheeling or something?!" I said, No, of course not. Do you think I'm an idiot?" LOL

I had to travel a little, but it wasn’t on my dime. The salesman had to pick me up from home and drive me back to the dealership because nobody there could drive stick. You ever road trip with a stranger? It’s surreal. I learned a lot about him. He was 25. Had hair like Morrissey, and this was his first sale...after being fired from fed-ex for accidentally ramming a forklift into a fed-ex jet. The weirdest thing by far was that we were both from the same podunk desert town clear across the country.

First experience offroad, 1977 Honda Civic. A bunch of my buddies and I went out to Triangle Road in Richmond B.C. years ago. Bunch of first gen Civics and a Datsun 210. One guy got stuck going through a ditch. We ripped the power cable out of and amp and tied that to another car an pulled him out. Who knew 4 gauge wire was strong enough to get a car out of a ditch.

haha sweet, way to improvise. You know you’re and off roader at heart when you take a fwd car and try and do stuff it’s not meant to do.

I have used crawl control at least 4 times now (owned it for a little over a year now). Saves me from getting out and be in deep mud trying to winch or use boards. I guess it depends on your region. I am in the swampy south, so TRD Offroad makes perfect sense with rear lockers, crawl control, and MTS. Now I didn't buy a Pro because I knew I was going to swap out suspension (already bought my second one lol). I guess I don't really need crawl control and MTS... it's just really nice to have in mud though that's for sure.
Not sure if it's the same with 2020, but the 2018 TRD OR had a greaseable Shaft (zerk fittings), and the SR5 I was looking at didn't. If I were to do it again (even with all the modifications I had done), I would still get the TRD OR.

Besides, it's not that much more from SR5 to OR (in my opinion), but I am also the guy that has a fully loaded (tools/equipment) garage but don't want to change my own oil cause I don't feel like it lol. You also get a cool looking TRD 4x4 decal on the bed to let everyone know you bought an OR

I got the Omni when it was gifted to me when I was 14 by my dad after he hit a deer in the front with it. This was after he took it from my sister after she backed into a tree with it and tried to lie about it haha.

He thought it would be harmless to give to me. He was wrong.
