People drive all over the place to get theirs installed at JT's in Cashmere, WA.

If you are near PDX look up Six States Distributors. They are the best in the area for driveline and gear work. Over 30 years experience and great customer service

I have REM and they are quiet as can be. The reason you had noise is because you probably didn’t use the Lucas non-syn 85W-140. It is a must

    It's complicated.
Well, so I ended up getting the 4.88 re-gear done on my truck. I drove to Nitro Gears in Washington, and Justdifferentials did the installation.

What gear oil did you use?

If you email or call Nitro, they will let you know people in your area who can do the install.

That would have been nice to know...

They never told me they had local installers--I didn't find that out, until I got home and saw that the pinion gear seal was spewing oil. Then they called their local authorized installer, who had a new seal; he was able to get me in right away, and Nitro/Justdifferentials paid for it.

I did have the Lucas in mine. ECGS did my install and filled the axles. It wasn't the oil

Any one able to chime in how everything still feels after a year with regear? I think I am planning on 5.29s as I am 34s, armor, and fingers crossed come spring i'll be ordering a Vagabond Camper. 5.29s sound to be the right fit, but wonder if anyone has had side effects caused over time with that ratio.

good to know, what tires are you running ? I’m debating between 4.88 and 5.29

    I have a 2016 2.7 4x4 auto trans but with 285/75r16 tires

The 4-banger comes with 4.30 gears if I recall. Not sure if 4.88 would be worth the jump, 5.29s would be though.

Yeah that’s why I’m leaning towards 5.29 . Stock it was absolutely gutless with the 4.30 (yeah I know it’s a 4cyl) but I don’t know of anyone from the 4cyl 3rd gen who has gears.
    Thanks for your input !

I’m also a MT! Should I do 4.88 or 5.29? I’ve had a lot of people tell me if I do 5.29 ima be shifting all the time and I don’t want that to be the case. What’s y’all’s thoughts?

Do 5.29's. I just did 4.88's with 285/70/17's and it feels about stock again but holding gears better. Kinda wish I did 5.29's, but for anything bigger definitely do 5.29's.

I ended up doing 5.29s they’re installed but I have yet to drive it because this corona virus and I’m out of town and stuck across the country. I’ll let you know I’m eager to get home and drive them. Will be interesting to see how it drives (my buddy at home is breaking gears in for me and getting it to 500 miles for me) so hopefully it’ll be broken in when I get back and ride better than it was before on the 4.3s (I did 5.29s front and rear)

I'm looking at re-gearing and saw you said to hit you up. I have 285-75 16 and about 1200 pounds extra weight. Deciding between 4.88's and 5.29's and the main goal is improving MPG. I know 4.88's are considered the MPG gearing, but 5.29's are better if you have more weight, which do you think is best in these circumstances?

How is your MPG after swapping to the 4.88's? I'm on 285/75/16 and running about 1200lb extra weight. Deciding between 4.88's and 5.29's mostly looking for MPG improvement.

I'm still in the break in period so it's hard to tell but before my computer was registering about 16mpg and now it's saying 18 mpg. I've had the hypertech speedo calibrator since before the gears (though it still doesn't quite match what GPS says for speed). I'm very happy with the gears, but yeah I'd probably get 5.29's with yours especially with the added weight. I'm about to throw a topper on mine and I probably have a couple hundred pounds besides that.
