What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

It should be fairly easy to change the CAD file to subtract an inch.

I didn't give it much thought. The BL came with chinsy clip on spacers there that fell out almost immediately. It hasn't caused any issues there yet and I think my heaviest tote sits above it. Also my shock crossmember is right there to support it if it does sag. I think it will be fine unless you are carrying lead.

I have the apex too. Any issues with the fitment?

 

No worries, they will make great license plate lights.

If you have a bunch, they will make great 12V landscaping lights. They will work on 12V AC with almost no blinking.

 

Interesting. How long did you run them for?

 

No pics...sorry, not interesting though anyway. Eventually got my new, upstream O2 sensor installed. Looked at a few online videos and it looked like a 10 minute job. Then finally get into it and realize all those videos were for an automatic and my 5-speed has the connector for the wiring up on top of my transmission. Hand didn't fit up there even if I could have blindly disconnected both the clip holding the wires out of harm's way and the clip to attach the sensor into the wiring harness. Ended up removing the 4 bolts holding the transmission cross-member and carefully lowering it down about two inches so I could get a mirror and my hands up there. PITA. Cleared the CEL for that using the Torque app. Under the impression I need to do a few cycles of heating up and cooling down the system before I am confident the CEL won't come back but, these days, I have nowhere/no need to drive so guess I'll be patient.

 

I did what @m3bassman said and accessed the connector through the boot. Like he said, was still a tight fit, but still only took 15 minutes start to finish...

 

Damn...I didn't even think of that. My excuse is IPAs and I'm sticking with it

 

Getting the new 555 lower ball joints ready for installation. I cleaned the exposed metal surface area with acetone and sprayed them with some Duplicolor clear wheel coating that I've used to protect metal parts in the past from rust or oxidization. Since the coating was designed for wheels, it holds up to heat and sticks to smooth metal surfaces.

I will pull off the boots before installation and grease the contact area with the LCA. Then I will wipe off the grease and replace it with some sticky waterproof green grease that I've found to work extremely well for ball joints, tie rod ends, u-joints, and CV axles. Details, details, details.

For those with extended front coilovers running 650lb springs, how much preload did you give them from their free length?

Swapping my 600's to 650's and trying to get a baseline to start at as far as amount of preload. Shooting for 2.5" of lift or so
