Thanks for the info! So do you work for HP or are you a private tuner? If private, how do I upload the tune?

I'm an independent tuner, not affiliated with HPTuners outside of some of the Beta testing and product development I did for this platform.

If you'd like to load (reflash) your own tunes, or tunes from others such as myself, you'll need to buy the MPVI2 and 4 credits (~$500). Otherwise if going the "pre-programed" ECU route, the tune will already be flashed and all you have to do is swap/reinstall the tuned ECU.

siiiiigh.... no i have not. With the shit show of the 'Rona and being insanely busy with work (Work IT for Univ, 10x the call volume now), last thing i wanna do is have a truck down for a while waiting on backordered parts.

As far as i know, there are no people who work for HPTuner's who make tunes, they just supply the product for us to be able to tune. I am the go to person for auto transmission tuning for our tacoma's. I put up my public auto trans tunes for free, the public tunes are the same ones I run on my truck (essentially stock, with 265/75R16 tires). My goal for the public auto trans tunes I provide is overall drive ability, lowering trans temps under load, get rid of gear hunting, make it more sporty feeling, essentially make the truck drive how it should of been from the factory without effecting MPG's. I also do custom auto trans tunes for free based on individual wants from their trucks. All of this trans tuning is free on my part (simply because its a hobby for me and the auto trans isnt that hard to tune and can be blanked applied to peoples vehicles).

JustDSM is the go to guy for the MUCH more complicated engine tuning, and while hes not free, he is INSANELY cheap for such a bitching engine tune with continued support.

    Thank you!

I need to get your current tune so I can get some changes sent back over. I have a different laptop with me. Any chance you have it handy and can email that file?

V13 trans tune has been flashed on the truck. Like stated going to give it a week of driving (cus whelp covid is limiting the amount im driving) But in errands today it acted exactly like i wanted which is a damn good thing, makes the truck very lively. Im feeling good about this revision for v13 to make it the actual v13 (i have gone through about 3 or 4 revisions of this v13). V13 pays attention to engine RPMS in relation to the same throttle input in every gear as well as more aggressive (quicker) downshifts deeper into the throttle to make it more sporty! Good things a coming.

I have also spent quite a bit of time re-doing the Excel doc to simplify the behind the scenes graph data etc, zero need to interpolate data points as excel can draw graphs regardless as well as simplify data to make it easier for people to see what has changed vs stock. (no more difference values as too many axis values have changed as well).

Has anyone dabbled into adjusting Min ECT and Steady Time for knock adaptive learning?

Everywhere else a normal operating ECT of 176*F and I have seen my truck have a hard time staying above the 182*F mark (it on cold days under light loads for quite some time before fully heated up, so 176*F would seem more proper for that setting.

As far as the Steady time, anyone know the parameters that it goes against (IE what a steady zone is?) Knock retard has all of a 1.02 sec steady time vs 3.02 sec of learn up. I figure the quicker we can learn up (say down to 2.5 secs or even 2 sec) could make the truck be able to figure out better timing tables.

Contact @JustDSM for details but he eliminated rev hang for me and tuned my truck to run better all around.

Also deleting the clutch accumulator or going with the clutchmasters hydro bearing (which deletes the accumulator and slave but requires pulling the trans - it also fixes the throwout bearing issues) helps. A core/Hurst or TRD short shifter helps the overall shifting experience as well.

+1 to ALL of this! The combo of @JustDSM's tune and @Trident904's Accumulator Delete Kit makes these trucks so much more enjoyable to drive. (Having a S/C with smaller-than-stock pulley makes things even better.)

    V13 ND4's Shift Points!

    v12 here- https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/hp-tuners-for-2005-2015.600793/page-243#post-22053091

So attached is the latest public release deemed "V13" I have gone through several revisions of this tune of which has been centered around downshifts. V12 started this in the 2-1 and 3-2 shift but v13 is FAR more aggressive in ALL downshifts. Now you might think... i dont want a more aggressive downshift. What I mean is we are making them occur sooner into throttle pedal input and or truck slowing down due to a hill. This actually makes the downshifts less "bury my foot then shoot to the moon with rpms", making the downshifts feel more natural and less jarring from a drive ability standpoint. No more lugging a bunch when turning up into a hill before a downshift, it simply goes ok ill drop a gear!

I have also gotten rid of lots of unneeded data within the excel doc (interpolation table bullshit I like the K.I.S.S method. ). No longer are difference from stock values used. The data is simply there inputted to the main page and anything highlighted in the peach color is a deviation from stock values. Also made a SLIGHT change to my shift pressures to make my OCD more happy (i like graph lines straight).

    upload_2020-4-24_16-19-56.jpg

As always comments, suggestions, want me to throw it in your tune, want me to make a custom trans tune, hit me up!

(Not sure what happened to my original post..)

But I wanted to say very cool! Your work with the transmission has been a major reason why tuning your truck is worth the cost of entry and your work on the Auto side is the reason for it. :) Good work man!

Anyone have the MVPI2 with the pro features? Worth getting the pro over the basic version?

For what it’s worth you can just get basic then upgrade later at no extra charge. It is just a firmware upgrade. You don’t have to decide now and can change your mind anytime.

I do and a few others.

I generally only recommend folks get it if they’re S/C and have already have a wideband that does not have a supported serial output or able to inject the output via CAN.

What, really?? There is a $250 difference between the the two, and you're telling me I can have the pro version for the price of the basic and just upgrading the firmware, which is free?

Ah, okay. So it sounds like I'm in that boat.
