The excess ‘red colored, liquidy’ Rust Check runs out and does not plug up the drains at the bottom of the doors and rocker panels. Look underneath where the rocker panel sections are stamped together. Fluid runs out of that area. It is not sealed there. And I can verify that the little rubber plugs come out and reinstall easily. Also there’s a larger plug on the aft side of the body above the rocker panels and large plugs on two of the doors.

I know mechanics in the Watertown, NY area that will not work on an older model vehicle that had Zeibart applied. The problem is rust forms under the the coating they put on and you can't see it.

Hi guys, I had my 3rd gen Tacoma done by ziebart last October. After learning more about undercoating I wish I went with a oil based. My question is, can I still apply fluid film over the permanent coating and will this still help with rust prevention?

    A few minor things...
I get an oil undercoating (NH Oil Undercoating) done once a year on my truck. Looks nearly new under it. I also have cans of fluid film for squeaky leafs and that seems to be a temporary fix... but they're not rusty! I really need to take the leafs apart...

I would say yes because the fluid film should creep into any openings in the undercoating.

Agreed. The problem with leaving it alone is this...... just cant see where the cancer is happening til it's too late. This can be prevented or at least slowed.

Anyone have any experience with this? My son is an aircraft mechanic. Wondering if this military grade corrosion preventer is worth a try or if it will explode if it gets too hot. 20200424_175146.jpg

ACF-50 for aircraft is making a name as a rustproofer (and lots of other things, which makes me more suspicious)
    100 dollars a gallon.

Ok. I did a bit more reading on this So Sure stuff my son brought home. Apparently it's a military spec corrosion preventer for interior applications. Exterior grade applications need reapplication monthly. Not really a break through technology. He fabricates panels for the F16 and does structural maintenance, so he uses this stuff on bare metal. Sorry for the spam, I was hopeful someone else might have had some experience with this stuff. Looking like fluid film is a better yearly maintenance option than this.

Don't know how zeibart is formulated today, but my brother had his 77 trans am done when bought new. That car looks as good today as it did new. You can see where they drilled holes in all the places that rust and filled with the stuff then plugged. Even the undercarriage of the car looks like it just came from the factory.

Had an old timer tell me about a product called “Cosmoline”. He lives in Pennsylvania and owns an ancient Chevrolet that’s at least thirty years old. I looked it up on Wikipedia and it was developed back in WWII to prevent corrosion. Fluid Film, LPS-3, and others all seem similar. He said the truck still looks like new.

Cosmoline is pretty good. Removed it from some older firearms (M1, SKS, etc.) in PA. That stuff is a pain to remove. Almost like a heavy duty petroleum based coating. My brother in law just did the underbody on his Ram 2500. I guess we’ll see how it holds up.

I did the undercarriage of my truck with it. Found out they now offer RP-342 cosmoline in black also. Its funny the regular cosmoline looks real similar to spectro chain wax, even smells similar.

Forgot to comment cosmoline can be removed pretty easy with mineral spirits or kerosene. Acetone works ok to.

Yeah, that’s exactly what I did. Quick google search and we were well on our way.
