These are on my list, along with lift, wheels and tires...

Just curious, anyone have vibration while braking (not constant) get new gears before the problem was solved? I’ll bring my truck to the dealer once things settle down. Wanted to ask since some say axles are replaced to fix it, others say drums and still some say shims.

Weird question: If I had 5.29's put in a brand new 2020 DCSB and no other mods, could someone describe how the truck would act any different as a daily driver?

FYI I planned on 5.29's ever since I saw this thread but have not heard anyone asking this question yet. Thanks for any info and great thread.

You would have an increase in response off the line, acceleration through input, you would hold the higher gears much easier overall, however you would see a drop in mpg overall.

Thanks for the input, gears first then lift and tires. I never really care about the mpg's overall anyways.

If you'll pardon me beating a horse I assume is quite dead, how much of a drop would you anticipate for a stock (for now) OR? I'm slowly coming to terms with crappy MPG because I want this truck to do more than just sip gas, but doesn't mean I'm not going down screaming out of shear stubbornness.

It will depend on driving habits and the type of driving you do. For highway driving you’ll see a 1mpg drop for a stock truck. If you drive a lot of stop and go short driving segments you might see a little more of a drop.

I posted some mpg data I think in the 2nd post based on 10 tanks of gas. One set is stock truck with just the gears and the other is with 33s

There’s some folks here who might have some additional input

Alright, I'm a believer. I was skeptical that the money spent might not be worth it but this is a massive improvement over stock. I never went into this thinking a gear change would turn my truck into a race car but it definitely exceeded my expectations. I would put this mod very near the top of my list of everything I've done. Can't wait to get on the highway and see how she performs!

It seems that most of the shops people are recommending are out west. Does anyone know of a top notch shop in eastern Ohio or western PA for the regear?
I have a 2020 DCLB OR and I think it makes sense to do the regear first, so I can properly break them in before weighing the truck down with all the stuff I'm planning to add.

I was quoted 2400 and some change installed, hows this price compare to everyone else’s experience?

If you’re in SoCal there’s a group buy going on with Premier West Gear which is on round 2 already $1700 parts and labor for either Nitro gears or revolution gears. Stoked to get the 5.29’s in soon!

I expect to never go beyond 33s but will likely run semi-heavy with camping gear. Right now I’m stock. Is it worth getting 5.29s before I’ve actually upgraded my tires and suspension or should I wait until after?

Go 5.29. Unless you're running 33 and no weight, then go 4.88. Otherwise 5.29. Even on stock tires people say it is better.
