Rewelded my upper limit strap mounts so instead of the straps being / \ Now they’re | |

it was tight quarters but I laid some pretty damn good beads. Like @glorifiedwelder said having the 220v you can get away with a little more stick out which helps in tight quarters. Got to experience that today.

The newest addition to my garage. Thanks to my wife for ordering. She didn't want me to order a generic plasma from Amazon.

    Dang this thing cuts clean.

Any insight to this? I've got a dime on a Miller 375 extreme for 500obo... pending it works, is there any reason to pass it up? Its a high end machine, but only rated to 3/8. Seems like a lot of the cheaper machines you can get on Amazon cut decently and are proposed to cut up to 1/2 (clean) or 3/4 (rough). Should I spend 200ish on a cheapo, or splurge on the Miller? I dont have any experience with plasma, but I imagine the money helps get cleaner cuts.

Nice! Seems to be the comparable unit to the miller I'm looking at. Seen it mentioned in a LOT of reviews.

Yeah I believe it. I just don't forsee going production level cuts for many years, but buy once cry once too...

That’s cool! What’s it rated to cut?

My Miller 675 extream is rated to cut 5/8". The most I've cut is 1/2". The cut wasn't anything to get excited about.

Anything under 1/4" is magical. A new tip and dry air and the cut is comparable to a shear.

I wouldn't get hung up on thickness ability. The most any of us will cut will be in the 1/8" range. And duty cycle is a rediculous rating for a plasma cutter. Your air compressor will be the limiting factor. I've never cut longer than 4'. It was no issue.

I've only used a Miller. I can't tell you what the others are like.

The Miller has done everything I needed to do.
I hate to say I have to shop for a hypertherm so I can get a machine torch for the plasma table. My 15 year old Miller doesn't have a machine torch option, as far as I know.

I'm guessing they are selling their Miller so they can get a unit to work their plasma table?

Interesting consideration. Sweet table build, was curious what you were making back when you had the plug weld pics. They just "dont cut enough to justify it". Literally just got sold though, someone offered over his asking. Gotta love 2nd shift...:pout:

Same, same. I miss out on lots of deals too when on the night shift.

    I did miss quote.

I said I had an Extream, that was wrong. I have a spectrum.IMG_20200424_225747.jpg

    3/8"- 20 ipm

    1/2"- 10 ipm

    5/8"- severance

I've used a machine like this to cut thousands of holes in 3/8" stainless and it never missed a beat. That's one of the reasons I know it will last, the one we had at work got abused and kept on ticking.

When was the last time an inspector gave you shit?

I don't weld at work, but I do see lots of welds. 2 days ago I saw an inspector fail a weld. Even after x-ray it was fine. I think there was just some history with the welder and the inspector.

A step up from Chinese at least. The only real reason the manufactures got into plasma cutters it was another market.

The first Miller Plasma cutters were made by Hypertherm.

There is only one real Plasma cutter Hypertherm!! After all it is all they Make

Sadly this plays out all to often !!

Inspectors Boyfriend needs a job so someone needs to be hassled into quitting or hit the 3 strikes limit .

Then it can go the other way inspections done from the break room which got quite interesting when lifting eyes failed at least no one was injured but it made the divide between the road crews and shop much wider.

Those in the craft understand for those that are not big rivalry between shop and road crews in most places each group feels the other are spoiled pampered workers till they have done both jobs then sit back and just shake there heads and keep quiet
