I was under my truck greasing my front driveshaft u joints and noticed some residue on my rear diff. I’m still pretty new to most of this. Is this normal or is there enough there to be concerned?

I have the same issue. As long as it’s not dropping drips you should be ok. I had my gasket replaced on my 18

That is absolutely not "ok". That is likely a diff leak. His 2019 should still be under warranty, so there is no reason not to have to fixed.

My '16 looked exactly like that before I took it in for the recall. Now it's completely leak/stain free.

The Toyota dealer gave me a bulletin, came out January...I went by there for this problem once already..2018 OR 4x4....They repaired it and the seep has come back after only 3 months...Said if its not dripping they are no longer going to work on it...Gave me a number to call to voice my concern....Also I had a 2017 that was repaired twice but kept seeping....Traded in for the 18' and still stuck with this...I have crawled under alot of 3rd gen tacomas most are bone dry.....So my 2 cents are after 3 repairs on 2 different trucks, if you have one that's leaking chances are its going to stay like that....Mine right now looks much worse than OP's....I do plan to call Toyota next week...

I’m actually planning a regear in 7-10 months depending on some things. I may just clean and continue to monitor/document the area for now I’m case it gets worse.

Hopefully the people you choose to regear may know a little more than toyota dealers know about how to put that differential back together correctly...Thanks

Lol yeah that’s my hope. My wife and I are actually thinking about taking a spring trip to Colorado. There’s a shop there that seems to have really good reviews. Colorado Axle and Gear

They are still having problems with this? WTF toyota. This was supposed to be addressed back in 2018 w/17s and 18s that had this issue.

I wouldn’t personally worry about it simply because it’s not dripping, and sadly, I have had too many negative experiences with the monkeys Toyota dealerships like to use. I would rather them not touch my truck. Adding to that is your plan to re-gear. Find a reputable shop and I’ll put money on that problem going away.

    good luck OP

Like many have said the dealer is only gonna order a new gasket and then keep your truck hostage or simply re-torque the bolts. I would just wait if you plan on regearing, its not alot of fluid just some weeping.

What are the torque specs on these. Might not hurt to just check these ourselves.

Another post is stating the same specs. Your memory is correct sir, to at least reading that here
Some people are finding these bolts pretty loose when checked... but like you said, if you check, check with caution! Nobody wants to snap off a stud like a member in the attached link
