When I worked at a bike shop in college, I didn't mind it. I could usually sell a bike at the price I bought it at the prior season. Now that I'm not in the bike industry, I realize how spoiled I was and hate it.

Hence why my most recent bike was a Surly Karate Monkey. Sort of weird and quirky, but lots of fun. And Steel. Mainly, it's something I'll keep for many years without feeling the need to replace for the latest and greatest.

Regarding 1x, I converted my 2x10 SC Tallboy2 to 1x11 after a few years and the need for a drivetrain refresh anyway. Best. Move. Ever. Sure, my bike is more modern than @mntnbikerbw ’s but it still has narrow hubs, narrow rims, pretty short travel and semi-old school geo. I did it myself, bought parts online (SRAM 11 speed rear on Shimano hub thus 11-42, 32 T Raceface NW ring up front) so it’s not the widest range but it works for me. It’s great not worrying about chain alignment, adjusting two cables, having a shifter in the way of my dropper remote, etc. but just removing two chainrings without going to narrow-wide probably won’t work so well. I’ve been running this setup for almost 2 years now, and I’ve NEVER dropped the chain off the ring. I think chain wear is less as well, I’m still on the first 11 speed chain and I ride 1000-1200 miles a year.

Anybody use the Thule proride xt and like it?

Ordered that and aeroblade cross bars and I am very impatient for it all to arrive. Thule is taking their sweet time getting it out the door.

Looks like when my hanger broke it sent the derailler into the wheels slightly bending one spoke and causing another spokes nipple to come loose. How bad is it to just tighten the nipple and ride with a bent spoke?

@chowwwww I'd probably tension/true the wheel in the frame and keep riding it. Steel is strong and since spokes are tensioned members I wouldn't worry about a bit of a bend. I'm a hack though. :D

Mountain biking hasn’t really been a thing for me the past few weeks cause of the weather so my road bike has been getting some miles recently. Even found some super light gravel!C888D441-476E-4329-918F-E29708C7AC66.jpg

It was supposed to be a gravel ride day. Made it .25 of a mile before stans starting squirting out of my tire. So I turned around and grabbed my ss and continued on with my ride. Rode to Palace station ( old mining town in Arizona ) and took the long way back. 44 miles and a little over 4 k feet of climbing.

Lol. Had no choice. It’s like a fat chick. Take or leave, but if you take it don’t tell anyone about it.
