US Offroad winch mount on a 2nd gen. I can reach in through the grill to get to the lever. I also have the wireless remote.

Also added a BlueSeas (marine, 600 amp) cutoff switch.

I have a hidden mount with an X20. You have to either pop the hood to access the clutch or spool out with the wireless remote. It would be great to access it from the front, but it is not a huge deal as it isn't used constantly. There are some sharp ass edges on the plastic reaching in there though. I went this route mainly for the weight savings. Although I do like it, if I did it again (and I may change), I would have gone with the SOS slimline. I will eventually go with the SOS full bumper probably. I just hate to add the weight. It is already getting heavy with all steel rear bumper, sliders, armor, and hidden mount and winch.

X2! IMO, this is one of the best options if: 1) you don't plan to use a winch often, and 2) this is your daily drive. Why carry the extra weight and expose the winch to the elements if you're not using it? The biggest drawback is the installation.

I thought the Warn bumper required some cutting for some supports underneath the truck? Or am I wrong? It's the only reason I haven't gotten one yet.

Not sure, but I thought all the low-pro bumper styles would require some plastic cutting. Don't think there is any cutting of steel though. You do remove some components.

For me, the winch is there as a backup. I want it with me all the time, not just on a wheeling trip. I have had multiple times that I used it and did not expect to need it. I have extracted multiple vehicles from snow on my way to or from work. I have pulled a forklift stuck in bad concrete. I have used it when cutting down trees. I have had a few times where I found a lonely muddy road that I probably would not have explored without it. Everyone has their own reasons for needing one, but for me, it is the unexpected as much as the expected.

Is the winch not really heavy to be carrying out of the garage to the truck every time you want to install it? Asking because I've never lifted one.

Speaking from experience with my X20, I think it is pretty heavy. Even though I don't use mine often I'm glad its mounted to the vehicle. The pro to the setup above is you could mount it forward or rear facing.

My 10,000 lbs winch with steel rope plus cradle is 110 lbs (83 + 27).

for those that are worried about cutting these guys make a very nice winch plate/mini bumper. The cuts are all hidden unlike all the other options out there except for warn. It does not hang out in front as much as the warn and has better lines in my opinion. I was able to compare it directly to the SOS slimline bumper and would do the 4x innovations again. Super beefy as well especially the tow points come into the inside of the bumper and tie into the frame mounts. I installed a Warn EVO 10s and like most of us have not really had the chance to use it much. Hopefully that changes soon. The solenoid on many of these winches must be relocated or modify a brace on the truck. I found these guys and really like how it worked out so I didn’t have to cut and fab up braces. https://tandem-offroad.com/collecti...r-mount-3rd-gen-tacoma-winch-controller-mount
    I’ll get some pics soon.

Do you have a copy or link to any install instructions on the winch mount?

I don’t. I kinda just made it happen. They are very responsive to emails and phone calls. I called at one point of the install and talked to them about it.

I love the SOS slimline: http://sosoffroadconcepts.com/2016-tacoma-streamline-front-winch-bumper/

I like the design a little better than the 4x innovations, but that's just an opinion

I'll probably email tandem too. I'm curious if the X20 controller can be mounted on it.
