Will be purchasing a 2020 sr5 probably in the summer. The insurance quotes I'm getting are all $200+ a month! Is there something wrong I'm doing? I'm currently paying $98 for a 2009 honda civic, my friends tacoma (2018) he's pay $130. What am I missing? Thanks!

How old are you vs your friend. What are your deductibles and coverages vs his. Zip codes, commute (distance), points, DWI(s).

That sounds crazy high as I don't pay a heck of a lot more for two Tacomas and a Grandsport Corvette.
But coming on here seeking rate info is fairly useless as rates are based on many factors including on individual's driving record and where you live.

I will advise that you shop your auto insurance every couple years as there was a time when being loyal to one insurance company reduced your rates however not typical today where most companies tend to discount
to get new business but will not give up a dime to keep long-time loyal business.

Before you shop for insurance check your CLUE Report.

You have an insurance credit report called the CLUE Report. You can check it once a year for free. I checked mine and my insurance report had a bunch of claims that my dad had made. A female "friend" had claims from an exboyfriend on her report. Challenge everything you can on the CLUE Report. Your rates will often go way down. You need only find the slightest flaw and you have no obligation to tell them what actually happened. Only what is wrong. So if something has a wrong date or the damage is coded wrong or the amount of the claim was wrong, challenge it. Your house has a CLUE Report on it as well. Check it over.

I had a claim on my homeowners insurance from a bad ice storm. It was on my CLUE Report and everything looked correct. But I notice a code letter that coded for vandalism rather than an ice storm. I challenged it. I had no claim for vandalism on this date for this amount. Off it came and I changed insurance companies for a lower rate.

There are alot of things that effect your rate: where you live, credit score, age, driving history, specific coverage, etc. Its almost impossible to compare rates with a friend.

Three tips: shop around, make sure you are comparing the exact same coverage, and, if you can, pay 6 months at a time to get a nice discount.

New Orleans. I'm paying $264/month. Company tried to jack up to $291/month after a windshield replacement...

    Promptly switched companies. Now $245/month.

I thought mine was bad. I pay a lump sum every 6 months, but it calculates to about 65 per month, in Dallas.

Definitely shop around. Also, I agree with the above statement, your age plays a huge role. I got reamed on insurance in my 20s.

Somehow I believe it. No city in La comes close to having the worst traffic in the nation, but damn some of y'all drive like raving lunatics.

With Geico, and I assume other companies, it's a higher rate for a commuting vehicle vs leisure, which means non-commuting. And, the amount of miles you tell them you drive a year. With the covid working from home thing, my rates dropped around 20% when I changed the coverage from commuting and less miles per year.
