I can't afford a mig setup right now. To be honest, after using this I'm not sure I want one. Not having to worry about gas is nice. Can work outside where ventilation isn't an issue. The welds don't look as nice and there's more cleanup afterwards with the spatter and slag but I'm OK with that.

Bastards still don't have my vertical shaft 22hp engine on sale. Of course the horizontal shaft version is on sale. I don't get it, they have the same number of parts.

I was told from a reasonable source that they were just getting ready to put the vertical one on sale but some nut on a truck forum kept posting about it so they decided to hold out on him. If only he hadn't said anything....:)

Someone in my family got one of the plastic 3/8 drive ratchets for Christmas and we all had a good chuckle.
But after using it, seems to be legit. It has held up surprisingly well and sees plenty of use.

I have the straight red handle composite ratchets in 1/4” and 3/8” and I love them. I actually have two of the 3/8” and keep one in my motorcycles tool roll, easily half the weight of the metal one it replaced. Never had any issues with any of them.

Next time the Pittsburgh torque wrenches are $9.99 I'm gonna pick one up. Would have been nice to have had it when I did my trans filter.

Follow up - I used this framing nailer to build a storage shed, plus a few more projects. I only had one jam, which was easily resolved. Great tool for the cost.

Has anyone bought a strap wrench that’s a decent/good one?

What do you want to use it for? For oil filters, get the Lisle 63600 and never look back. I have a few strap wrenches for plumbing and general use in several sizes though: NWS, Craftsman, Klein. The NWS is the most heavy duty and expensive of the three.

Actually, I’m trying to restore a Rubberset 400 shaving brush, which is a thin aluminum that I don't want to damage. The top and bottom unscrew, and I’m replacing the knot with a silvertip badger. But right now I can’t get the d#$n thing unscrewed!

I used a set of craftsman strap wrenches before that worked well. They came in two different sizes so you might be able to use both to twist in opposite directions?

Have you tried using a couple of the rubber jar lid openers that you find in your kitchen? Maybe find one of those and double or triple the thickness up and use a pair of visegrips or pliers at as soft a grip as you can?

Edit: Maybe use a blow dryer or heating gun to heat up the outside to expand it a bit to see if it will twist off that way?

A strap wrench would probably be too big and if not it might crush it. The threads are probably corroded. What I would try:
Clamp the handle in a set of rubber padded vise jaws and then a small sheet of rubber on the top portion and loosen by hand. As dumb as it sounds, I have a round piece of rubber for opening jars and it's amazing the difference it makes.
If that doesn't work, I'd cut the bristles off and try a heat gun on the top portion and try to loosen wearing leather gloves.
And lastly soak it in penetrant and try loosening again since you're changing the brush.

Edit: ha, same ideas as above!
