For some reason, I rarely take pictures. This one is from when I first got my Nomad. Wilder Ranch.

I recently joined MBOSC and have been thinking about doing their trail maintenance class. We'll see.I mostly just want to have a place to ride and they've done a great job for this area and seem to be pretty active.

I wholeheartedly agree, I think timberland is a very close second for me.

They’re a great organization. Great people with good intentions and phenomenal taste in beer. LoL they’re currently holding their trail classes online for the classroom portion while SIP is in place. Go check out their schedule.

Yup, quite a long time in the making. Hoping to ride it next week for the first time. Unfortunately I don’t own that trailer and bike setup. That was a loaner from Mike’s Bikes. Ebikes are pretty awesome for hauling gear!

I have a B.O.B trailer but I can't find the damn skewer for it. Did a few bike packing trips (sssshhh!) and just didn't feel like it was the "right" way to do it.

We just had a Kona Ebike donated for our trail crew. It’s definitely handy especially with a B.O.B trailer in remote areas. Mikes Bikes is awesome. We likely know some of the same people if you’re working on trails in Marin. (Some of my favorite people down there) I went down a couple months ago to help and check out the Ponti Trail project. That’s a great project. I was stoked to see in slope turns being used among other great great trail building techniques especially for Marin. The rock work is beautiful.

Yup for sure we do. Ponti is going to be a great addition and they’ve actually gotten it done with impressive speed. Hopefully we can keep that momentum and get some connectors built to Stafford Lake so we can hang out with @RangerComa more!

I’ve been sleeping on the couch in my camper for awhile. It’s okay but it’s only 26” wide and the view isn’t that great.

I started the upstairs platform last week.

Originally I was going to reinforce plywood with aluminum. However, plywood is pretty heavy. And this struck my as kinda boring.

At some point I came up with the idea of wrapping the 2” XPS foam insulation I have in fiberglass. To make sure it’s strong enough I decided to frame it in plywood. You can’t use polyester resin with XPS. It’ll eat it. So I’m using Total Boat 2:1 epoxy.

I need to build a 46”x52” platform or a pair of 46”x26” panels.

I have one panel mostly done. It weighs 9 pounds and I can jump up and down on it with my 170 pounds. It flexes a little but to cracking or bad sounds.

    The frames.

Getting ready to wet out the fiberglass cloth with the epoxy.

    ACB55AC7-1EA6-4AA1-A134-590863A8E77E.jpg

One of the panels with glass.
    It’s kinda f’d up but it’ll work.
The 2nd panel will be much better after learning from all the mistakes in the 1st panel.

    709A720F-79FC-4DF6-9727-B0EB9EC1B9AD.jpg

Edit: this has taken me about 15 hours to get this far and there’s still a ways to go.
I shoulda just done the plywood and aluminum.

Edit#2: having the foam framed in plywood is like a surfboard in reverse. Rather than having the stringer in the middle it’s on the outside.

    This is interesting.
You can’t use epoxy with chopped strand mat in the US because our chopped strand mat is made with a polyester binder. The epoxy doesn’t absorb.
Our chopped strand mat absorbs polyester resin because the poly resin dissolves the binder and the resin is pulled in.
The epoxy sorta works but comes out like shit.
In Europe they use a diff binder so either is good to go.

Chopped strand mat would have been better for my panels if not for this one problem. Can’t use poly because if my XPS panels so I have to use epoxy. Which is also more expensive.
