I'm fairly new to the tacoma world (previously a jeep owner), I live in Canada and it's muddy and there's still a bunch of snow. Whem i'm trying to go through the snow and mud on 4low, it bounces off the rev limiter pretty easily, but every time it happens, the engine dies on me and I to let go and gas again to go forward again. I get stuck for no reason. I know there is solutions out there for that.

tell that to the automatic transmission, I'm trying to modulate the throttle, but every time it gets a bit slippery, there it goes again. I'm not trying to beat on my truck, i'm just trying to go to my camp

Not that your engine should die, but it seems like if you're hitting the rev limiter in 4lo, then 4hi might be a better place to be.

OP sounds like you should be in 4Hi. I have never hit the limiter on 4Lo and don't know what would happen. I try to never get to that point.

No, it bounces for 1 or 2 second then it doesnt let me give more throttle, its quite easy to hit limiter when there's some ice under your wheel

Most people, when encountering ice, let off the throttle and are into the brakes. I have an inkling it's working as designed. U have traction control off, right?

Maybe 4hi would be better. Maybe now it's time to test out that crawl control juju. If you have it.

Arb summit bumper. Morimoto led headlights and new grill. Grill and lights have sequential turn signals.
Sounds like he is using 4 lo so he can use the diff lock.
You are pushing it too hard and its cutting the power.
Check the book and see that all the proper options are on or off concerning traction control and maby use optional terrain settings.
And get rid of that lead foot.

This isn't rocket science. If your bouncing off the rev limiter, traction is more of a concept than reality, shit tires (for the conditions) over inflated tires, not enough weight in the bed, heavy throttle...it's just a fucking vehicle it can't think for you

Simple. You are going too fast on 4lo. Switch to 4hi. Problem solved

These tacomas, after bouncing on the rev limiter for more than a moment, cut throttle until you let off and re-apply (or hold throttle & let it drop itself to 4k or so). It’s by design, but pretty stupid imho. Makes drifting on ice a bit harder sometimes. Happens on the automatics and manuals - ovtune asked about it awhile back on his mt thread

it does it even when you hold down the trac off at a dead stop - which completely shuts off VSC & TRAC at all speeds. As far as i know, there’s no way around it..

Yours is automatic, is this occurring in Drive, or are you manually selecting a low gear?

You can feather the throttle to keep off the limiter and if you’re hitting it so easily you should probably try a higher gear.

Work the throttle to where you’re just under the rev limiter. Only solution without changing to 4hi
