    Alright gents/gal,

Had my buddy come over yesterday to help sort out this ticking/clicking noise. I had him rev my motor while I was underneath the truck. I have isolated the noise around the oil pan area. Definitely coming from the bottom of the motor. Grant you, Toyota says my engine is fine, they connected the computer to it and I guess everything looks good. My question is what would be causing that noise in that area?
My initial video got deleted so here is the video again so you guys can hear it: https://youtu.be/Wm-02SRgwms

Tell them to start a tacoma on the lot to prove that it's normal. Put your foot down and be firm, don't be a fuck, but don't take any shit. Dealers are lazy and will do the bare minimum to get you out the door. Stick w it

That’s the issue I’ve been dealing with. Most of my friends drive Tacoma’s and they get in my truck and hear the noise. When I take it to the dealer, they try to tell me it’s normal and they don’t hear a noise. Its irritating to a whole other level

Most of the time they're dicks. I feel like occasionally they'll do the right thing but most of the time it's like pulling teeth. It's not so bad when u go into it, knowing what to expect. So go back and don't take no for answer lol. Tell them to start a brand new one and prove it.

According to them they don’t hear the noise though. I have taken the shop foreman out on the road and I could clearly hear it but he kept saying it was normal. Brought it back and showed him the video the other day and they had my truck for 5 hours for them to say it’s normal and they created a case with Toyota. I was like bro, you told me you heard the noise in the video and you still me tell that it sounds normal.

Honestly I feel like it’s because they know they will have to tear apart my truck to find it and they don’t want to do that so they keep telling me it’s normal

Maybe bring in one of your friend’s trucks that doesn’t do it, if its the same motor/trans combo

Good idea, I’ll ask my buddy and see if he’s willing to do so.

They told you its normal? Shocker.

Unfortunately everything is normal to them. Like skydvrr said, you gotta really push them to do shit for you. I have experienced it quite a few times now.

What really helped me couple times, was when i CC'd GMs email with my emails, then shit got sorted out real quick.

    Good luck!

If you can reproduce the noise every time, then go in and ask to take the service manager on a test drive so he/she can hear it. That is what we do at my dealership.

    EDIT :
I see you already did this.

X2, I would think that error message would pop up and say you can't apply the brake and throttle at the same time.

    Bumping this.

I also have a 2020 doing the same metallic clicking noise. Any update on yours?

Your videos aren’t working for me so I can’t compare to yours and I keep getting an error on uploading my video.

Noise seems to happen at low speed, I’ve taken two videos, I can’t replicate it exactly, but it happens every time I drive, without fail.

a few months ago I took it in because of more clicking and odd noises, that turned out to be rocks stuck in the skid plate. This time, I removed my skid and no rocks or anything that looks out of the ordinary underneath.

I’m at a loss as to what this is and it would suck if this is something we’d have to deal with as it’s not a very pleasant sound at all.

    Nito,

I have pretty much given up on trying to figure out the noise and Toyota telling me it’s normal. I just turn my radio up. Unfortunately the video I had got deleted after I got a new phone. But yes I still hear the noise if I have my windows down and only at low speeds, kind of like an inconsistent tick. It doesn’t seem to have any affect on drivability or power so I’m just taking it as it’s normal. Glad to hear I’m not the only one dealing with this.

Get a mechanics stethoscope and see if you can hear it clearly. Then take that to the dealership and compare with another truck on the lot. Have them EXPLAIN to you why that is 'normal'.

    Update:

i messaged OP on this but in case anybody else ever experiences this.

I dropped my truck off at the dealer today and they called me back a little over a hour later. Asked me who installed my tires (discount tires). They broke off a piece of my TPMS sensor, replaced it, but left the broken piece inside the wheel which was causing it to make that metallic sound. This pissed me off because I've had great experience with discount tire and would've been okay with them calling me and telling me they broke it but replaced it. that would've been totally fine with me. Instead they don't say anything and make it a bigger issue. Granted it was a simple enough fix.

The problem was was odd based on what I've read in this read as well as the messages with OP. But the more I thought about it the more it made sense.

I had my tires installed at about 1000miles. Noise wasn’t there. When I got my tires rotated at 5000 is right around the time i started to notice it. I'm assuming the sensor in my driver side rear is the one which was broken, then when it was rotated to the front is when I noticed it. My second thought is (full disclosure, I'm no physicist) the sound is only heard at low speeds due to the ability of the object to move about the wheel freely. It's inconsistent because it's a metal/plastic piece trapped in the wheel. It's not heard at high speeds because the force of the wheel spinning is pinning the object to the side of the wheel, holding it in place? Just my thoughts

As of now, the noise hasn't returned and I'm hoping this was all it was. It doesn't take away from the fact that OP was under the engine while his friend rev'd the engine and the noise persisted so this could be a different noise altogether.

    Good luck OP.

My 2017 with 23,000 makes the ticking sound , DRIVES ME NUTS, I kick myself in the ass for spending that money for that kind of nonsense. Its out of warranty,I tried different oils, still the same. It almost reminds me of loose rockers.I will never buy a Toyota again unless they can make a fix.
