Just because steel is high strength that does not mean anything as far as corrosion. Corrosion and strength are 2 different things from a materials science perspective.

Yes... My cousin mentioned that the alloy used tends to corrode a little faster than other steel alloys used in other truck frames?? I was thinking the same thing ace96?? Looks like the only recourse is to keep the frame clean and protected by fluid film.

Just FF the frame (and inside the frame) every fall and you'll be happy and not care about or need the extended warranty.

I was on the Toyota Facebook page and asked them if the 4th generation Tacoma will have a frame that won't have to be replaced due to rust and rot?..I was immediately blocked!!...and I am a Top Fan..imagine if I wasn't!!

My guess is Toyota is counting on most people trading vehicles in for new ones. That leaves them to only have to deal with a handful of us that try to keep the things running well over a decade. As long as people keep buying them, no reason to change.

looking forward to auto show season. It’s a little harder to “block” someone in person than on FB.

You do not dare to question the Great Golden God which is Toyota. Kneel and worship or die. I'd love to see a survey of what the average ownership time of tacoma owners is. My guess is that the overwhelming majority of tacoma owners trade in way before frame rot out is an issue and toyota knows this. I'm sure toyota has done the math. They will not give a shit about this issue until it affects their bottom line enough. Look at how long it took to get simple led headlights. I would bet that the new taco only got those because toyota was running low on the old parts, and the new led system parts are shared with enough other models' parts to make it make sense cost wise. They won't give owners a thing until they are forced to. Who is there competition? No one. Fords' Ranger and Chevys' Colorado aren't seen as the same quality level as Toyota by many consumers. Dodge isn't in the game. Honda easily equals toyota in quality but doesn't make what many consider a real truck, merely a truck body on a car chassis. Tacoma buyers will get the occasional bone thrown to them - power rear slider, sunroof, led headlights and cosmetic updates for the rest of time up until and only when tacoma buyers get some real viable brand alternatives.

Ford and Chevy and Ram ARE Toyota’s competition. Toyota does have the reputation for overall quality, but I’d say those who lease are only interested in one thing- who’ll give them the best (cheapest) lease deal since they have no interest in keeping the vehicle for 10 years. It’s 36 months and turn it in. And Toyotas historically don’t lease cheaply.

That $149 Ram lease offer may have all sorts of fine print and markups, but it still gets people to go into the dealership. And once that’s done, They’re more than halfway there to a sale.

So based on all of this chatter, my 2006 is skunk out of luck if I have a frame issue? Has anyone had success with frame repair services?

Are owners of 2015’s getting letters/CRC treatment offers?? At 175k I don’t have any rust (fluid film since new) but I’d take a free CRC treatment!

If what you are doing is working, might want to stay away from the CRC. I've treated my frame since new (2010 with Krown) and stayed on top of any small rust spots. My understanding is that once the CRC treatment has been applied, you're not going to be able to keep doing what you've been doing as the metal will have been covered by the CRC. Also, not sure how visible any rust will be under the CRC, preventing you from addressing the issue. On my 2010 I decided not to respond to the recall notice, as I know my frame is in good shape and what I have been doing has worked so far.

I have received this same paperwork for my 2013. With all the salt they like to use here in jersey Toyota may have to honor it some day.

Does anyone know if the replacement frames used for the recall replacement had the engine perch issues resolved? The gusset kit is a big job , but...

Pretty sure they do. I don't know why they'd be using an old frame design that's known for weak spots 14yrs later. Just for shits n giggles here's a picture from under my frame swapped 06. Hope these answer your question.

I see many members in this thread posting about receiving letters from Toyota about frame warranty info and inspections. I recently bought a 2015 and would like to know if there is somewhere I can get official info so I have a foundation to stand on when I call the dealer.

Download and create an account with the app "Toyota owners" or via the website www.toyota.com/owners there you can enter your Vin and it will provide you the ability to view and print any service records held by Toyota along with any open recalls available to your vehicle and information on what to do. Also the owners manual and other information specific to your vehicle.

Hey Mitch. That is good to hear about Stevenson. They are going to replace my frame and the E02 recall on the springs but I am about 2 months out from having it done. I have an 09 with 160k miles. The service rep said they can do additional work at a cheaper cost. Rear main for $675 doesnt seem cheaper.

I have seen other posts of people getting
    fuel pump
    UCA
    lower intermediate shaft
    power steering lines.

    Did they replace your LCA?

Not sure at this point what Ill have done. Like you, I expect the worst when it comes to having this done. I have had other work done there in the past and it was fine. Thanks to this site I have been able to a lot of work on my truck.
