It was the last good lot left in the neighborhood; My parents thought they were out of luck, but the person who originally put down a deposit couldn't get approved for a mortgage!

Wow that's awesome how things work out sometimes. My parents first house had something similar happen.

The second house they ever bought together as a married couple was brand new; 4 bedrooms, central air, 2,700 square feet...

This was in 1990, and the original selling price was $240K; The original buyer backed out and the builder took twenty grand nonrefundable, so my parents got the house for $220K!

Just curious since you mentioned shitty frames - why are there 3 generations of Tacoma's all with shitty frames - wonder why they can't get it right after having to replace millions of frames over 20 + years.

Lots of Toyota bagged or boxed parts are manufactured in China. China has good production quality as long as the American or Japanese company quality reps are visiting the Chinese vendors at least once a month to make sure the vendors aren’t changing the part production process without any notice. Or you have the reps actually living there. If you don’t have surveillance over your widget getting made in China, then it’s susceptible production process drifts.

It’s obviously cost driven. It’s cheaper to replace the small percentage that are returned for warranty than it is to make 100% of them better at a higher cost. In fairness, most other trucks don’t fair all that much better. Most people just don’t keep them as long and the other manufacturers aren’t offering to fix them.

Not enough complaints to NHTSA. https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/VehicleComplaint/
Our HHR had a bad shift interlock that wasn't covered under a recall. When ours failed I took it to the dealer and I had it replaced at a cost of just over $600. Could have done it myself but, it was the wife's vehicle and we needed it ASAP. Anyway the service writer told my to keep my receipt because GM has a recall on this part but, the HHR wasn't included because there wasn't enough failures and complaints. Apparently the mechanism was used in many different models that use the same transmission. I filed a complaint with NHTSA over the issue just to have some type of satisfaction I did something about it. About a year later the HHR was added to the recall list, I took my receipt back to the dealer as the recall notice said, and two weeks later my money was refunded. So now anything I feel is a safety issue I file a complaint with NHTSA. Hint, clouded over headlights can be a safety issue. Although it impacts many different makes if NHTSA received enough complaints, it would be investigated.
So if you feel you are not getting satisfaction from Toyota with your frame rust issue, you do have an outlet. They will acknowledge receipt of your complaint. It's whether they deem it's worth investigating.

This is true for any vendor. Perhaps it happens more quickly in China, but I’ve seen it first hand in other countries known for high quality too.

Im all for made in America (I work in US mfg), but between higher wages and stricter industry standards for EHS, it'd inflate the cost of that recycled steel to a point that it prob wouldnt get recycled at all. 2 sides of every coin.

They said something on the radio about cars cruising on Saturday night on the main street in town, sounded like the city was ok with it as long as people didn't get in groups.

Sucks I don't live in Ohio...

Houses are cheaper there than in PA, even in the wealthier areas, there's no stupid car inspections, and now only one license plate is required; Ohio has made the list of states I'd move to! Can you buy hard liquor in a grocery store though?

Yes you can get hard liquor in the grocery store here. If you were close by I would sand blast that lawn furniture you are restoring.

That would be fun; I believe it was Jeremy who suggested I paint it teal, and my parents approve!

Is the sandblaster you have the same one I'm thinking of? Like thirteen years ago, my uncle who has the wheel refinishing business taught me how to use his sandblasting machine; It is a rectangular box with a glass front, and built-in gloves that you stick your hands through. There is also a gun that you "blast" the object (in this case an alloy wheel) with. I had a lot of fun! I think he sanded my wheel skins by hand...
