A F350 isn't going to give you the same experience as a Tacoma.

The Offroad has softer riding suspension than the SR5 and you get a locker, terrain selection, and an electrically assisted traction control.

If I were to start over, I'd go Offroad.

SSO hybrid bumper, Warn winch, RCI skid trilogy, RRW sliders, everything in the cheap/free mods thread, and of course the frame recall work.

I'm an IT professional. I loathe working on computers at home, hate it when family/friends ask me to "fix" their WiFi/computer/phone. The very notion of "playing" on a computer after work is stupid. No idea why anyone wants to sit on their ass playing a video game or building a PC up or cobbling together a linux build. I get off work, and I want to be away from people, working on my trucks, going to trails to drive. Our truck club goes out to the trails, drives about 60% of the time, stops and socializes the rest of the time. I used to go to the gun range 2 to 3 times per week, kept the M4 hitting with iron sights to 500 meters, got to high proficiency left & right handed with my M9 ... then got into teaching, became a master instructor, started training other people to be instructors, then became a charter member of our gun club (which requires 50 hours of service plus additional hours of mandatory work days) ... I rarely go to the range anymore because it's frigging work whenever I do go there. Work = suck the joy out of anything, whether it's a passion of a thing you just do for the income.

First...there's absolutely nothing you can say on here that won't offend somebody or create an argument. I haven't even read past the 1st page of this thread, and I guarantee you...somewhere in the subsequent pages, there is a bitch session going on between people about something...very likely not even related to the original question. There are people that do that sort of thing just for fun.

To your question...I haven't read all the responses, but the few I have, said pretty much the same thing that I believe. Which is...most people want spend their leisure time doing something different than what they do for their job...kinda regardless of what it is. I have a buddy who is a surveyor...he hates hiking, another buddy that's an accountant...he loves hiking. I think you get the idea.

Not that I ever figured out. Maybe someone took it out on a joyride and tried their hand at some insurance fraud. Perhaps just some punk kids.

    Also this

I bought a 4runner after i nearly died when i was into subarus and racing, and then I went up a gnarly dirt road to get an epic view of the super moon over Denver and I was hooked. Got a job that required a bed and now I'm in my Tacoma atleast once a month to go explore some roads very few people ever see in the mountains

Get some Interco Super Swamper TSL's and you won't shread tires. You may need ball joints and tie rods sooner or later, but you won't destroy tires.

Off roading is a hobby, it sure beats watching bullshit on TV or playing stupid ass video games.

I'm a fire investigator but I still love fires! I definitely don't read phone book sized fire Dynamics books on the weekends, though! Ha.

I'm also in the "offroading is means to an end" camp. I want to get the best camp spots and views far away from civilization. That being the goal, I think there is a serious diminished return on mods beyond a pretty basic point. I don't personally understand why people spend 60k to make a Taco go over a rock when a 10k atv can do it much more easily, but I guess the experience is the goal there.

To the final point, I was working at a garage when I graduated high school. I put a deposit down to go to UTI, and my boss talked me out of it. I still like working on my truck and bike because of him.

Wholesome these guys are talking about Debbie's deep dip , Holly's honey hole and Nancy's nut sack like it's nothing . Sounds dirty and like some very tough off roading to me .

Lot of good responses and valid differing opinions so far.

I mod my truck because I enjoy figuring out how to turn an idea into a tangible object. The design, troubleshooting, and execution are fulfilling to me.

When I go offroad, it is often to drive and camp in areas without cell coverage. I find it easier to unplug and relax that way. Using the mods increases that fulfillment, and has the added benefits of increased comfort and safety factor in areas with prolonged and expensive recoveries.

A stock taco can absolutely make it to 90% of the places I go: I just smile more doing it this way.
