I want to buy a Tacoma 4x4, but need to know what years NOT to buy because of the rusted frames.

What years of Tacoma 4x4 trucks are good to buy that don't have the RUSTED FRAME problems that I heard about. I want to buy a Tacoma for $15,000 and I live in Northern New Jersey.

It's more important to check the truck vin with toyota on those years. I just bought an 03' from NJ that had a frame and spring replacement in 2017. If you go to Toyota website there is a owner area and you can input any vin and claim it as your vehicle, and it will show you all the work history they have, might not have every oil change if they went somewhere else, BUT it would have any recall or TSB stuff.

I believe it was originally up to 2010’s but late last year they extended it up to 2017’s.

It is not a year dependent issue, it is more location and maintenance dependent issue. You will have to carefully inspect any truck you are interested in regardless of year.

Edit - Welcome. I'm in NNJ too, morris cnty, let me know if you need anything.

Exactly. From what i've been told and still hear its an ongoing issues with taco frames rusting. Just find a good one and prepare yourself to keep it clean of road salt and use fluid film every year.

Buy one from a southern state. No rust. Seriously, people do this quite often. They will find one in TX or AZ, fly out to buy it and drive it home. The Southwest is where this is most popular, but the Southeastern states can be good too as long as you avoid one from a coastal area. Trucks in Florida get a lot of rust from the salt in the ocean. But otherwise anything as far south as TN or NC won't have any rust either.

Same. My 2006 has no rust issues but my friend's 2005 who lives in the same area does.

Always check any used vehicle you buy for rust.

Welcome to the forum. As suggested, inspect what you want to buy and inspect it closely.
