Nice info. I had a chat with the greenback genealogy expert for the USFS today. He's a biologist by trade but he needs help on the historian side. I'm trying to help with some historical research down near Salida but not having much luck at this point though.

I think that is part of the reason the CDOW has their hatchery brood stock in North Park, or did when i was there. Plenty of escapes into the creeks during high water. All which lead to the North Platte.

Trout Unlimited has a done a lot of research on trout. There was a great article on just this subject a few years ago. It’s amazing how it has changed in the last 100 years. In Michigan brown and rainbow trout are nonnative fish. Brook trout and Grayling were native fish.

Have you reached out to anyone over at the Leadville Hatchery? They may have someone there that knows the history.

They are tracking much of the same information. I'm actually looking at re-introduction efforts post-wildfire but I always like to know the history of my study area (South Prong Hayden Creek).

    Been there, got the t-shirt.

Grabbed a 12 pack of beer,. Walked up to boat, set the beer in the floor if the boat. Crack! Set the beer on the tip of my buddies rod. The rod was not put together and I never noticed it in the boat.

I've been trying to teach everyone to put their rods on the upstream side of a beached boat. It's going on 25 years now. I don't think it matters anymore.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
At least you got some fishing in. Had a similar thing happen only I didn't have a spare rod and it snapped my spinning rod on the middle. I got two casts before I realized what happened. Glad your buddy is making amends.

I think we all have that t-shirt. Watched my dad snap his off when he shut the hatch on an old ram charger. I just looked and laughed. He didn't think it was funny.

Had an older Cortland rod YEARS ago (lifetime warranty) and was fishing with a buddy......had all kinds of problems false casting and casting. Finally stopped and looked at the tip - it had snapped about 6" from the end. Done for the day (no spare). Called Cortland and the guy kept saying I smashed it in the car door or something. I told him that would be something obvious once he saw it, right? He said yes. Had to send the entire rod back so the new piece could be matched to the rear half. I ended up with a complete, brand new rod for free as it was obvious to them that the tip was just defective and snapped on its own.

Looks like a hold over or wild. Either way, nice fish. My son caught an 18” brown at our club today.

I think it's a stocker from the Brown Trout club in Slate Run. They stock north of there in a catch and release only section.

Ok. It just looked a little skinny for a stocker. I haven’t fished Slate Run yet. We always hit the Pine when we are up that way.

It's great trout fishing. The club puts $10k worth of browns in a year. This year Straub sponsored them so they are putting $20k in 3 different stockings. 2 have already happened. There was a huge hatch coming off yesterday and they were pounding it.
