There’s a spot we found last year that’s a rocky beach on a stream that would be pretty cool to camp. Dunno about fish but there’s water lol

I probably wouldn't try that hard anyway! :)

I'm more interested in getting to some new trails, and camping with some good people.

I don’t know. I think everybody standing around heckling while you try to fish could be pretty entertaining.

I have only caught a handful of blue catfish in my life and most of them have been on private lakes that I don't have access to anymore. I know people catch them in the rivers around STL and I have snagged a few below dams. I'll have to go try out a few places after I finish finals. I want to try and catch a sturgeon and I think it is a similar process but I have no idea where to go.

Every public area I have fished around the area only stocks channel catfish.

The biggest thing I have always heard and experienced for blues is you need to use fresh bait or live bait. not so much stinkbait like you can with channels.

That's what I hear as well. Cut shad or skipjack or whatever oily bait-fish you can get your hands on.

I've caught a bunch of smaller sturgeon on the Chippewa River up here, but they are generally off limits and we can't target them.

Same thing with paddlefish (spoonbill). They are protected here.

@Shellshock that was a good spot. It was a pretty good sized river. Not sure about the fishing though.

I think we should all camp at owls bend.(picture below) Huge river there and I’m sure lots of good fishing.

For reference that field to the left is available to camp in too. But you can camp on the rocks next to the stream.

I have never fished either of those spots, but on other areas of the Current there are suckers and quite a few trout in most holes. Along most bluffs there will be smallmouth. I have never caught largemouth but they are probably there too.

    That spot looks awesome!

    Let's do it!

    This is only 89% true.

Fish can sense when people are nervous, which is why I always try to have at least one or two beers before, or while fishing.

I could see smallmouth hanging out along the opposite bank there.

That water looks crystal clear. They might be finicky! Or, I'm already making excuses for why I didn't catch any when we go there...

Even if the fishing sucks it’s a cool spot to camp. Lots of great places around there to wheel too. I’m going to do some exploring down there hopefully in a few weeks once this rona stuff slows down.

I heard echo bluffs is a good place too. It’s all around Eminence, MO

I could catch nothing there and have a blast!

If you start looking into setting this up, please avoid the weekends of June 20, and August 20-23. I'm booked those weekends.

Done and done. I’ll keep them free.

Its either going to be mid May depending on rona. Or September. In between there it’s miserable AF down here.

Don't forget about KOAR in September.. Unless it gets cancelled.. Stupid virus!

This is the only year that mid-May might work for me. My annual spring fishing trip has fallen victim to the Corona shutdown.:(
