Issue installing folding Thule kayak roof rack

After the initial set up it only takes a minute or two to remove or set them up. They attach to the factory bars using the TimberLine towers. A hex driver is included with them and that is the only tool required to remove and install them. Highly recommend getting the HD bars over the standard core bars. Not only are they far superior in strength, they also have T slots built into them so you can easily mount just about anything to them. I’ve had two bikes and racks, a Road Shower 4 with seven gallons of water, and a awning attached to them (200+ pounds) and have driven this seat up off road without a hiccup. Works good for my needs. And when I’m not carrying anything I just have the factory bars sitting in their side position and don’t have to deal with any kind of annoying wind noise. Originally had a Pinsu rack but didn’t like the added noise so went with this set up and am quite happy with it.

 

Exactly what I am after...when i open the factory bars and lock them as crossbars they feel weak as F.
More secure when closed in my opinion.

 

Can you use a bicycle quick release perhaps?

 

Maybe if i knew what that was...i mean i understand the words involved lol just not sure exactly what it looks like etc.

Yes. I’ve broken a factory bar trying to carry my Road Shower on them when going off road. Should have known as they flex quite easily when in the cross position. But they can hold a decent amount of weight when in the closed position if you mount the attachments towards the ends. Have held up fine using them this way.

Those are the ones. Wouldn’t recommend the Jetstream bars though as they are aluminum and you will reach their weight limit fairly easily unless you don’t plan on carrying too much weight. But they are a good bar and quiet also. Have used them in the past on a couple cars.

Then that set up should work good for you. Buy it!

 

Those bars also have a T slot built into them. I have mounted my awning to them.

 

Hey man..... when I look up these timberlines at a local store they list small medium and large lol. Any clue?

 

Only come in one size. The bars come in small, medium, and large (different lengths).
