I'm really pretty sure the gate has less to do with the current state of the world and more to do with normal operations. I'm betting the road will be open next weekend.

I had read on forest orders many roads were closed until 4/30 due to late wet weather. I think i had read that prior to alot of these SIP orders but, i could be wrong.

So ive been patiently waiting for the season opener to distance myself from society.

They started opening gates Saturday night. I’m not sure if they were opening all of them or just some

 

Well that's disappointing... they probably opened the gate on 3N01 just hours after we were there. 3N01 is normally opened pretty early.

That’s a great start as you are there on the right channel. Using it in simplex form is transmitting and receiving on the same channel, which is basic but a good place to start. It functions like a walkie talkie but with more range. In the future you can learn about repeaters and receiving on one channel and transmitting out on another. But for what we do you are good for the most part

 

I’m heading out tomorrow for Mendocino National Forest. I called the ranger station to just confirm if it was open. I was curious as they have a notice that all OHV trails are closed, all campgrounds, and the ranger’s reply surprised me. He was like “yeah it’s totally open for dispersed camping, just don’t go to any campgrounds.” I read Newson is closing all state beaches and all state parks effective tomorrow.
National Forests are a different story though
