I think I’m done with this acoustic I bought. It’s just a pile of shite. The strings are SO far off the fret board towards the hole and there’s fret buzz everywhere now. I’m just done. Fuck this guitar. Gonna try and just sell it back to the pawn shop and get a new acoustic that isn’t this old and fucked

    What guitar is it?

It should make you happy and want to pick it up, not frustrated.

Ive worked on a few like that.
    Theres just no saving some.

Its a yamaha FX170. Apparently it's an old "vintage" guitar. That's what the guy told me when I took it in the first time for the issues. It's only gotten worse since I brought it in. My new epi 339 has been amazing though. But I really want an acoustic too.

Sometimes its just not meant to be.
I had an epiphone acoustic I loved the tone and neck just could never get used to the huge body.

My 1st martin I was disappointed in, fell for the "new" instead of getting the tried and true my son and little brother have.

    You'll find one.
    Itll speak to you.

I'm just glad my brand new Epi I bought I love. So I still have something to play that sounds good... well, as good as I can make it sound

Think I just may take this one back to them and see what they'll give me. Maybe buy an Epi acoustic too. We'll see. Not in a rush anymore since I have the 335 to play in the meantime.

Just checked my setup on my epi. I think the intonation is almost perfect off the bat. I may have one chord just a tad sharp. Watching some videos on other setup stuff. The frets might be a bit long and need filing down a bit. And maybe just a slight adjustment on the truss. I have just a tad bit of buzz going on

honestly, I wouldnt go messing with the truss rod just yet.
Let it get acclimated to its new home for a while.
You can fck one up if you dont know what your doing.

I purchased a bunch of luthier tools from stew mac a while back. Gauges, files, micrometer, etc. I guess I just wanted to have them around.

I think it’s pretty good. I really only hear the buzz on the strings, but not through the amp. We’ll see. I wish my acoustic didn’t suck so much lol

A "Pro" setup from a local, trusted, respected luthier should only cost you about $70 with new strings included.

He'll file fret ends or bloom, level, crown, set intonation and string height.
Always, always always stick with the same gauge string. I leave the empty pack
in the case because I have some with 9 slinkys and some with 11-5? hybrid.

    Maybe it just needs something...
Im not a fan of yamaha but theyre usually good guitars.

I was just messing with my acoustics truss a little more, its really close.
Just gets better and better for me.

I feel bad yours isnt making you happy, maybe this will help?

It has potential unless its warped or has some really bad issue...
