a local shop would probably STOP at 5qts.............. certainly 6
an overfilled engine sump does hurt the engine unless the sump gets pressurized for an extended period
    highly unusual

U have described a rookie error
my dealer explained it too me............... happens more than U think
no less some dealer mechanics have made SAME Mistake

the transmission drain is where on many a vehicle the Engine Oil Sump DRAIN would likely be

no less with All GOOD Intent the trans gets drained
no less ( on my 1st taco ) we found out the trans is SEALED
no need to fiddle fart around with it unless EXTREME temp or towing has occurred

while U are concerned about the $$$$$
my concern would be the trans running a day with little or NO fluid

So in all those 6000 miles driven you never checked either the engine oil or the transmission fluid ???

Then you might not know how to check your fluids and the people that said they did never really looked just said all is good?

Are you sure you drained the oil? I know, it sounds like the shop drained the trans and doubled up the oil. But are you positive you just drained the oil now?

It’s surprising that the car didn’t give you any signs that something was wrong when you were driving it with double the oil capacity.

Post a picture of the location of the drain plug that you just removed please

starting to think this is just another fake troll post, no way you can actually put 13 quarts of oil physically into an oil pan and engine that was designed for 6 quarts it would be flowing out of the oil filler hole and other orafices even before the engine was even started and driven

I know we've seen this happen many times here on TW. But this one....I don’t know. Seems fishy.

    But.....3rd gen. So technically possible.

Somebody see if 13 quarts of oil will fit in a Taco engine. I'm curious.

kind of sounds like they drained the transmission fluid and not the oil than just added oil because they thought they drained the oil

I am curious the counter weights would be whipping the oil

I've done it so many times now I hardly even check the dipstick on the changes anymore. Just fill it up 5.5 quarts and it's happy for another 5k.

Having worked at one, the answer is all kinds. One coworker had to look up how many quarts were in a gallon o_O. He didn't last long. Neither did I for that matter.

But your changing the oil .

Not the local Quicky mart you know the engine and most likely would notice something different

@Wyoming09 - noticed something was wrong with the transmission as soon as i drove out of lot of the shop 8 months ago, I had them add fluid immediately.
As for engine oil, I know better now, but I trusted the shop to have changed my oil correctly and weirdly enough, no obvious indicators that anything was wrong arose from driving the 6000 miles with 13 qt of oil

    WTF?

    Setting here shaking my head.
At this point you got oil in a bucket.
Refill it to the correct level and drive on.
I don’t see the shop doing much about it after 6,000 miles.
Holy Fack Man. Never return there for service again. Ever.

Agreed. At over double the capacity the entire crank would be submerged in oil. Mileage drop would have to be severe. Engine performance would surely suffer as well as frothed oil creating blow by and smoking even at idle. One or two quarts over would be bad enough but extra 7 quarts? I’m skeptical.
