    Revit nuts won't work. The bed is too thick to properly secure behind it.

    Mods? Yes.
    they'd be on the backer plate-whatever material I end up going with- not the bed itself

    I was able to make the rivnuts work and got it installed with no backing plate. Plenty strong.

    Used a dewalt oscillating tool, was super easy, just be sure to wear pants and a long sleeve shirt and gloves, otherwise you'll be itchy... i learned the hard way.

    The passenger and driver dide cubbies are the same dimensions. Pull the passenger side out, trace the cutout, and transfer it to the driver side.0121211937.jpg 0121212111.jpg 0121212117a.jpg

    Not having a driver's side cubby in my 2021, I thought seriously about adding one. But the competing considerations were (a) a small amount of additional storage space, versus (b) more sources of leaks to seal. With the experience of leaks around the passenger side cubby, and the effort it took to seal them, I've decided for the time being to leave things as is. I can understand the rationale of Toyota in eliminating the cubby (other than cost savings).

    Wait, what rationale? I don’t think they did it for people wanting to seal their beds for, uh, camping and things. Mine get filthy but I just put my straps and stuff in ziplocks in there.

    You can just seal up around the holes in the cubby with gorilla tape.

    This won't work because the prongs (hinges) and the latches of the cover require clearance behind their slots. Mike Williams' "Cubby Caps" will work, but they're tricky to install. (You have to glue them in from underneath the truck, reaching up between the bed and the outer fender.)

    That's right, forgot about those. It'll work for the ones in the rear still.

    Me too. Here's what I did and its all sealed up, no water, no rust.....

    KMn04 wrote - "Wonder if anyone has done this with a 2020 that doesn’t have the compartment?" I don't know but I'm about to find out. I just pulled the trigger on a Tuffy lockbox for a $181 and plan to cut a hole out and install soon. It will be here in a month.

    9mmMike;
    You are absolutely right. My 2020 Tacoma does not have the factory box on the driver's side too. But I keep looking at where the factory box used to be, and that room in the fender well is still there. It's like Toyota got cheap all of a sudden and got rid of it. I can't wait to install it.

    RiveNutBob,
    I never thot about that and your right....Crap. I guess some rust-olium spray paint will help.....(I hope)....

    Me (BigBue) - "Well it wasn't fun and it sure wasn't' pretty but I got her done with a little help from my new found friend Cody and he finished it up for me after I burned through two blades cutting through the composite bed. The storage box slid right in and secured with six self tapping screws and sprayed the crap out of it with a can of flex-seal to prevent rust. I love it........"
