I just broke down and finally purchased a set of TLD Raid knee pads. TLD just came out with another type of knee pad but I have not seen any reviews on them. TLD knee pads never go on sale by the way. They are beefier than what I was expecting to purchase but I'm glad I did. I've put a couple longer rides (>10miles) in with them and no chafing at all. It has a top strap that keeps it from sliding down too.

Fit is everything like someone else mentioned. I have the benefit of living in a city that has a lot of bike shops so I was able to drive around a couple of months ago and try on a bunch. The thinner models feel worthless and lack shin and side of knee protection. Another thing I noticed while looking at knee pads was the varying quality of construction. The Leatt, TLD and POC have what I think to be the best construction. Your biggest trade off will be protection versus the heat. I imagine no matter what you wear in Alabama during the summer its going to get swampy real quick.

It is. Now with 12 gears!

Why would I have done something silly like that?

Anyone know if the newer XT M8120 4 piston calipers are compatible with the older M8000 series levers that came with the 2 piston set?

I’ve been eyeing the Ti timberjack on pinkbike. This whole not leaving the house thing is really testing my spending discipline haha

Everyone needs a quarantine bike... right?

Currently at the shop getting a OneUp EDC tool, dropper post, new stem, and carbon bars. Definitely blew the budget with this one but hopefully, you only quarantine once.

Are you doing the EDC tool in the fork tube? I’ve always carried a pump and have been thinking of getting the OneUp pump and tool, but the fork mount is an interesting option. Then I could ditch the pump and just go inflator.

I was in between this and a Salsa Cutthroat. I haven't ridden a hardtail in years and I never was a huge fan of drop bars so this was the move for me. If I ever want to ride something sort of gravel-bike-ish but not really, I'll just throw the rigid fork on.

I had a SC tallboy2 carbon that I really liked and I got the salsa to scratch my ti itch. I have since sold the SC because I never ride it anymore and am on track to go an extra 1k miles this year over the SC because I just enjoy riding more... And I loved to be on my bike before. All that said, if I did it again I would get the aluminum version. Ti is cool and will probably last forever but the cost premium for no performance advantage is a bit steep. For being a made in Taiwan frame the weld quality and craftsmanship is as good as the Dean my buddy has and a Lynskey another acquaintance has. Not sure if they are all that way or I just got lucky, but it is superb. /Salsa BJ

Nice! I’d like to replace my remedy at some point but I’d also like to replace my road/Cx bike since it’s almost 10 years old. So it’s between a new trail bike and new gravel bike, although a regular 29” steel or ti bike would be cool. So many decisions haha
That’s good to hear! I’ve never ridden a Ti bike, I just feel like I want to try it. I was looking on the lynskey site the other day, not bad prices really. Their mountain bikes seem a little dated though. I like the idea that they were made in Tennessee though.

My quarantine bike is a gravel bike. I tried a Giant Revolt at the LBS over the weekend. Wife is getting the same one, but they only had one color in stock. She didn’t like the color or want the same color as me, so she put the owner to work. He called today and said he’s got one on the way for her in a more preferable color. She told him to hold the one I rode for me. I’m not sure how soon hers will be in.

I pulled my Trek X-Caliber XC bike out tonight to wash it and take pictures to list it for sale. I think I’ve ridden it once since August and don’t see myself using it much this summer. Still sad to see it go, assuming that it sells.

I actually exchanged a few emails with them about custom geometry but they were only offering sliding dropouts for a SS ready option and I've had enough of the endless creaking and slippage issues that come along with those on a routy mountain bike so after discovering the salsa dropout design and that the geometry was really close to what I wanted it was an easy decision. If you are interested in Lynskey, why not a custom geometry frame, exactly how your want it? The added cost really isn't that much frame to frame. Lynskey makes really good stuff and they are good people, too. If you want American made ti frames, I'd put them at the top of the list. There are others in the USA that make great ti stuff but the extra $ for some of those is for no benefit in my opinion. I mean, these guys and gals built ti stuff for NASA that went to Mars after all.
