Picture this: Turbo V6 as the top Tacoma engine option and AWD. If it was lowered from the factory, it could make an amazing sport truck.

Yeah yeah totally. They have that, it’s called a Subaru Forester, which is absolutely not a Tacoma.

:DI’m playin. But I still mean it.

No need for it by a fight but the 2.7 ecoboost is a pretty good example. It was designed from the ground up to be boosted and has proven reliable. This one has 340K miles on the completely untouched engine and turbos.

I know it's only 1 example but the motor has only been out since 2015 so not a ton with tons of miles on them. Liquid cooled turbos really help with longevity.

Turbo gas engines notoriously fail, the turbo cooks the, oil, all rubber, the oil, and the oil. 150,000 rpm, that's what a turbo spins at doing it's duty, gas turbos, likely more rpm's. All those bearings, seals, the turbo itself is a maintenance item.

That article really cited some great/reliable sources. Reminds me alot of the "diesel toyota trucks coming to the US" click bait articles that used to get posted in the 2nd gen forum all the time back in the day. I'll believe it when we hear it from toyota.

I would be okay with a large displacement V6.

Huh?! Volvo has been selling turbo 4/5/6 cylinder vehicles for decades and our turbo failure is almost non existent. Probably the best engines made in my opinion and professional experience. Now Audi turbos.... those be junk

Ford GT Ecoboost sounds pretty good personally.

My buddy has a 18' F150 with the 3.5 Ecoboost. It will put you in the seat way harder then the Chevy Silverado he traded in for it, doesn't feel his boat trailer as much, and gets 20mpg's.
Another friend has the 2.7Eco, and while not a bad engine, it doesn't really impress.

I am all for a V6 turbo, Im just worried that it will cost a big chunk of $ after 100k to replace the turbos.

For real though, I do kind of want a Forester XT. I love Subies!

Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

Hey man, don’t give up hope. People still use MSN for news. :D:D

The hope for a v8 Tacoma died when the 4R ditched the v8.

The Lexus GX offers a 4.6L V8 @ 301 hp and 329 lb-ft. That's a Toyota product and "could" be retroed to a Tacoma. Mileage sucks in that heavy SUV and probably wouldn't be much better so that's just a pipe dream.

You'll never see a factory V8 Tacoma. The best we can hope for is a turbo 6 but it'll likely be a turbo 4.

And if you're going through all the work to swap in a V8 might as well just put in an LS.
