Ripped the shit assed stairs and overhang (that was nailed straight into the siding with NO FLASHING OR PROPER FASTENERS) off the house today and built the 2nd of 3 eave overhangs. I cannot say enough how much I love my Kubota. B1E58A9F-5D2E-4705-A569-A6071FB17AA8.jpg 7375C17E-E2B1-47FD-BF67-4A49351F8048.jpg 491AC038-5B46-4354-96CB-066EF21BA119.jpg

Yup. Big assed framing nails and smooshed right against the siding with no flashing, not even a spooge of caulking. Did the same with the replacement windows, put the effing nailing flange over the siding and just hammered it in. My 2 y/o furnace is on every 5 mins in the winter and if I didnt have the woodstove i’d have been pissing away $500+ per month on oil probably. Im stripping the house to studs and doing roxul, re-sheathing, residing, and doing new windows and doors. Cant wait to open that can of worms.

I'm the same way. Tubes of PL, advantech, roxul (or rockwool, whatever tf they call themselves now), GRK everything, flashing, etc. I take an hour to pick out framing lumber because I have to give every one the hairy eyeball and if it isn't straight NEXT. Which with today's wood, yaknow.. Way overdid the garage and made it 2x6 because I wanted better insulation. Colder than a witches tit in a brass bra up here in the winter.
Prior owners were city folk that moved to the country.. and grain alcohol was typically involved. They were my dad's neighbors when I was a kid, nicest people ever but just shouldn't have been allowed to touch anything construction related. Husband died and wife was a damsel in distress who walked down to my dad's house asking if he wanted to buy it while I was stationed down in Virginia and I in turn bought the place off my dad and now we're neighbors. Only downside is our chickens have gang turf wars with each other once in awhile when they meander too far over the property lines.

I gotta say GRKs are worth every penny. Cheap screws just aren't worth the frustration for me.

I agree. I really like GRK fasteners.

    I found this site - https://www.buygrkfasteners.com/

I haven't purchased from them yet, but they have good prices and a large selection of sizes - much more than the home centers.

Maybe I got a bad batch but my latest 2" GRK's were not good. The 5/16 RSS screws I used in place of lag bolts were fantastic, though.

Just a small update on the shitty sheetrock job I did. Put in small pieces using small strips of plywood for backing. Not sure if I wanna leave it how it is or put some mud on to hide the crevices

No, just leave it so you can beat the shit out of yourself every-time you look at an unfinished repair...just saying.
