One will obviously effect the other. Mat was simply telling you that you need to increase how much the alternator works to meet a particular requirement you ask for. That will obviously have a knock on effect on life expectancy. “Design constraint of an alternator” is an interesting description though. They are designed to a price, and in turn a massive variation in life expectancy. Ie In real life increasing the duty cycle may not change one alternator in any meaningful way, but another could die in 1/2 the expected time.

I don't how you guys get there.....get the kit........but 4.88/5.29 gears and 2.0 LOB - I had a "situation" yesterday where I need not worry about MPG, let's just say. HOLY HELL I almost scared myself. Not too many people gonna say that about this puny ass V6. Get the tune. That sucker responded and MOVED.

2(a). VF Tune for the Tacoma hasn't even been released yet so no-one except Mat knows exactly how to do it. Just be patient and wait for release. There are enough people here already that have AGM batteries and I am sure adjusting the charge voltage is on the top of their list. I am 100% certain one of them will make a post about it.

I for one had no idea this was even a thing, but now that I do know it makes me that much more excited to play with VF. It's going to be epic!

Having the battery at the recommended cyclic charge rather than less

I don’t think they could prove it if you don’t say anything, but if you are taking it in to have something specific looked at; then flashing back to stock couldn’t hurt.

If it’s for a regular service though; I don’t know if I would flash back, but I’m way out of warranty and don’t really trust my dealer to do maintenance or repairs anyway :notsure:

(Mat or Rafael, please correct me if I am wrong)

Here's the good news concerning AGM batteries: users who have the same ECU will be able to share their vfTuner files. In other words, once someone with the same ECU as you figures out the magic formula for modifying the duty+voltage settings, everyone will be able to use those values, tables, and even the tune files themselves. Passing various tune versions around will soon become a very common thing.

@OVTune , @Rafael@OVTune -- Does OVtune host its own vfTuner file exchange website of some sort, or is that something we (users) might consider setting up ourselves?

Another option may be to create a new thread here that contains an index with links to all of the various tune files that people share/upload to various places.

I’d assume that they will host the tune pack and templates. Other files would be by the users

Most likely just in Dropbox or google drive or something with links to forum.

I'd just hate to see a bunch of user-created tune files get lost in the nether if there's no centralized index or upload location of some sort. I'll put some thought into it and see if I can't figure out a way to host it. A simple website with an index that includes links to each file and a brief description may be easy enough to build. Maybe have a tab/section for each ECU and call it a day?

The same could be done with a dedicated "vfTuner File" thread here on TW that includes links and descriptions. Users would simply post links to the files in that thread and then Post#1 would contain a constantly updated index to keep track of everything.

Just thinking out loud here... obviously cart before a horse, though... lol

My mind was going the same direction... but also including some sort of cataloging reference feature. Perhaps having to 'tick the box' for every table that was adjusted. Then you could search/filter. But now we're talking database work.

That would certainly be next level and extremely useful for professional tuners. However, it may also be overkill for the primary audience here on TW. I think a lot of users would simply skip that step when uploading a file, so nothing would ever get cataloged properly.

Definitely a cool idea, though. I certainly won't be mad if you somehow find the energy to do that! lol

@OVTune I just got my Master Key and link to download VF, but email instructions say to hold off on downloading VF until the Tacoma support is released. Is there any risk in handling my download, and sending in my System ID now to cut down on the time it’ll take for me to flash? I figure it’ll get a “1-3 day waiting period” out of the way, rather than wait for the release, submit my ID, wait, then submit my calibration info, wait again, then flash.

You tell me and I’ll follow - is there any risk in getting this process started, or can I send in my System ID tomorrow?
