How difficult is it to convert a 05 2wd off road package to 4wd? Is it worth doing or should I look into just buying a 4wd one? Thought I would never really need it buuuuut slowly realizing I do.

Depends on how good you are with a wrench.

If you can do the labor yourself it MIGHT be economically feasible. But most of us would be better off just trading for a 4X4.

Doing the FJ case makes the conversion a lot easier. A lot less electronics to deal with.

Don't forget the ADD delete mod as well. With the stock actuated ADD, you will have to wire up a switch to activate it.

There's a huge thread on it that's floating around

It sounds like you don’t use 4wd much so, if you want 4wd you’d be way way way way better off to sell your truck and buy a 4wd truck. In addition it would be expensive to switch over to 4wd from 2wd and a major hassle and project. Unless you are a good experienced wrench it could be a frustrating and complicated job. Now if you have no life, no interests, no hobbies then maybe it’s something you should consider. If it’s something you really want to do then go for it. For me I can think of a million other things I’d rather be doing.

And how good at refraining from buying all of the best (most expensive) parts available a person is.

    LMFAO!!!

I'm fairly sure most of us are here because we do have interests and hobbies - our trucks.

The amount of satisfaction from doing a big job well by yourself can't be bought.

Why buy it, if I can get you to pay for it?
    How’s about paying to for a 5 lug / 4WD conversion. Lol

    Just kidding you man.

15 plus year old truck, you would be better to trade up to a newer 4x4.
